naturalmom
When the grade level guidelines are given, does it mean the child's grade according to age, or the grade of math the child is working in? My ds is in 1st grade, but is in 3rd grade math (going through Singapore Intensive Practice 3A at the moment). Would there be enough in the Primary Challenge, or should I wait a year and get the regular Challenge Math?
Country Girl
I'm not really familiar with Singapore but my ds is doing BJU Math 4 and we are using the Primary Grade Challenge Math as a supplement. There have definitely been a few things that are easy but some section are so challenging he can't complete the Einstein level (and maybe even one chapter he only got through level 2). (In case you aren't familiar with the set-up.... each chapter has a Level 1, 2, 3, and Einstein Level). So, I think the Primary Grade book is perfect for us right now. HTH! My 6yo recently started 4A and is about 3/4 through PCM. She typically breezes through the first three levels orally and occasionally has to think about the fourth. It's a nice break and does introduce some new concepts: percentages, decimals, etc. she hasn't yet covered in Singapore.
abbeyej
You would be completely fine with Primary Grade Challenge Math. The problems would start out fairly simply and very quickly become challenging (within each chapter).
lighthouseacademy
My ds is almost ready to move into 4A and is doing the Challenging Word Problems level 3 before I move him on. He loves the Challenge Math book too. He has not had any trouble with the chapters he has done, but he enjoys the problems and we do them orally too, with a mini white board handy in case he needs to write something down.
