jeri
I am planning on starting my mathphobic dd with Horizon 4, and will be using this in conjunction with SM. I'm pretty math savvy, and am hoping to make SM the lead curriculum. So, can I get by with just the workbooks? Thanks. jeri
GraciebytheBay
If you are math savvy, I would say you could do it without the TM's. Of course, you'd have to do all the calculations when correcting, and that would really be a pain. I am using Horizons 4 this year, and the thought of correcting without a cheat sheet makes me shiver! I find the TM helpful when teaching new concepts. e.g. He began learning about prime numbers this week. I would have had a difficult time without the TM. Almost everything up to this point I could teach without it, though.
GreenKitty
I do not currently use the TM, though I will when I start to get lost or 'think' it might be helpful.
Lolly
Ds is using 5th grade. I sometimes use it just for checking answers when I don't feel like working the problems. But, I'd be perfectly at ease without it. Most of the problems are pretty simple to work in my head, or I can usually follow his work easily to find any trouble spots. Diane
I didn't have it for K or 1st. This time I got it for 2nd grade, and I'm not kidding, I think I looked it over about 5 times. It didn't help me at all, except to check the problems, but even then, I usually watch him as he's doing his math and check as he goes along. 8filltheheart
I don't use the k-2 TMs, but I do use them for 3-6 for grading. I don't have time to work the problems (heck, half the time I struggle finding enough time to grade......my least favorite part of homeschooling )
