Lilaclady
Hi all, What English will you advise for a student who had finished Ap Lit and Lang? My student was doing to take an online class but now the course is open, it was more than I had anticipated. Does anyone know of a complete English course online available. I don’t want to hodgepodge with Brave writer courses. Thanks
BookwormTo2
Homeschool Connections has a variety of English courses for high school. My dd is doing a 6-week Hamlet recorded course and it is really good (taught by a college professor). They also have composition courses. Farrar
I would use it as a chance to focus on a specific topic in writing or literature that interests him. It could be anything - a particular author, a particular time period, a particular country or region, a theme. Or to focus on creative writing or doing research papers. I don't think it would be a hodgepodge to pick two different topics for two semesters. If he's completed both AP English courses, I also think you don't necessarily need an outside course. You could compile a list and mostly let him read or you could frame it around a Great Courses series - there are several options there.
Rebecca
The Potter's School has a lot of interesting upper level English courses. If this was my student, I would either do what Farrar says,or I would choose a high interest course at TPS. There are so many choices...and what a great year to enjoy and delve deeper.
Momto6inIN
After DS did AP Lang I figured he was ready for college English/writing and moved on to a half credit of speech and a half credit of modern lit just for fun his senior year. yvonne
Has anyone tried Excelsior's upper level, "Independent Study" English classes? It looks like the student has a lot of leeway in deciding which texts he studies and like the main service provided by the Excelsior teacher is reading & providing feedback on the student's essays on those texts. Is that correct? Sounds like a great option for a mature, self-driven student.

I really want to outsource this as I have quite a bit on my plate.

Will have to see what I can do for fall.

fourisenough
Blue Tent has Advanced Senior English and Integritas Academy (Cindy Lange) offers Critical Thinking for Upperclassmen. Both sound like good post-AP English options.
Penelope
Senior Thesis? Memoria Press has a class, and I think I remember that Wilson Hill does also.

GoodGrief
You could also consider another sort of language arts elective, like public speaking/debate.
Farrar
I guess I'm thinking that for a student who has shown they can pass both AP's in English that even if this were parent designed, it could be handed off and not worried about much, especially if it was coupled with a Great Courses or similar component. But even if it's online, I'd look for an English elective rather than a standard English class and let the student pick.
Sebastian (a lady)
For one semester I gave my kid a stack of books and told him to read some stuff. For the spring semester he took the Lukeion Shakespere class, which he really enjoyed. He also took the two Muse classes and the Research Writing class from Lukeion. He liked all of them.
Lilaclady
Thank you so much. I just feel like having some teacher feedback will still be good. I have seen two classes suggested that should be a good fit.
