Kidlit
I’m interested in using the Miller-Levine biology text with the Kolbe syllabus with my dd next year. She will be fourteen and is a strong reader and can be a motivated student (depending on where the teen moodiness is taking her at the moment ðŸ˜). I’m curious as to how much time a week a student who tackles this might plan to devote to it. Also, how much teacher-intensive time is required? I have three younger children who require a lot of one-on-one, but I don’t want to be hands-off with my dd as she enters high school. I am planning to outsource math (her best subject), but everything else will be taught/studied in-house.
Penelope
We used the honors plans for ninth grade. I also purchased the digital bundle. I used the assessments from the publisher as “quizzesâ€, which also helped me see if there were any concepts that needed additional reinforcement and helped cement material. There are some multiple choice and some short answer, drawing diagrams. There are other digital resources as well, handout type things and notes that would be used in a classroom. I made occasional use of those and of the virtual labs when I thought they were interesting. I think Kolbe has their own quizzes, which are shorter. The book work was not teacher intensive for us. Our discussions were more about extensions of the material than the book itself. I spent more of my time on labs as we did live labs rather than virtual. lizlatorre
Definitely go for live labs. I thought the digital labs were terrible and my daughter hated them.
sbgrace
So did those of you who used it find the digital resources were worth the extra cost?
