KeriJ
Are there any recordings of Barbara Alan Johnson for Volume 3? I can only find them with Jim Weiss. We really like Barbara so much better after listening to her on vol. 1.
mellifera33
I didn't know that there was another option for narrator! My kids like Jim Weiss, but my dh thinks that he sounds sarcastic about everything. He (dh) now questions everything he thought he knew about history.
arliemaria
Is this audible vs the cds maybe?
cuckoomamma
We’re not fans of Weiss, so I’m glad to hear there’s another version! He sounds so bored and sarcastic to me.
klmama
I don't think so. They switched to Jim Weiss for the later CDs, then went back and had him rerecord the earlier ones, as well. I was disappointed, as I much preferred her voice.
kiwik
Where can you buy the earlier ones?
klmama
Maybe on ebay or homeschoolclassifieds?
Janeway
No, there is not another version. It was hard for us. We have Barbara for the first two levels. Then it switches to Weiss. It takes some getting used to. It is ok when you get used to him, but until then, it is a drag. You kind of need to take a break between year 2 and year 3 to transition between the two narrators. Roseto27
We have all four discs with Weiss. I didn't know there was an earlier version. Edited March 19, 2018 by Roseto27
cuckoomamma
We have all four with Weiss, as well. Would love the earlier versions. Honestly, I should just record myself for us. We really dislike Weiss but find the audio versions so helpful.
arliemaria
I would like to hear the other narrator just because I am intrigued, but my heart is sad. I honestly can't believe that so many of you dislike Weiss. We love his audio stories!
sweet2ndchance
We have the original Vol 1 and 2 audiobook SOTW with Barbara Alan Johnson from when the audiobooks first came out as well. We weren't crazy about Jim Weiss either in Vol 3 and 4. In fact, the Weiss volumes were barely listened to but my kids would go back and listen to the Johnson ones just for fun. klmama
I would like to hear the other narrator just because I am intrigued, but my heart is sad. I honestly can't believe that so many of you dislike Weiss. We love his audio stories! It's a vocal quality thing, kind of like listening to Bob Dylan sing. Some people focus more on the words and can tolerate or even enjoy his unique sound, while others just can't listen to him because of the way he speaks/sings. Either you love listening to him or you don't like him at all.
