Kitchen remodel? - Lowes?

We are likely going to do some updates to our kitchen this year. At a minimum, we will reface cabinets, replace the countertop and replace appliances. While replacing the countertop, we will probably go ahead and replace the sink and faucet (I despise our faucet). We are also open to replacing cabinets if someone can come up with a better configuration and adding a tile backsplash. We do not need to do our floors - they are hardwood and match the rest of the first floor, so we want to keep them in place. The breakfast nook is in the kitchen, but it needs noting, as it has no cabinetry.

Local companies that do "everything" are getting bad reviews. I want one person to be able to look at the whole project and help me make sense out of it, so I don't want to pick and choose my individual contractors - I need some design help.

I'm thinking of going to Lowes. They use contractors, obviously, but they also offer design services and I can see everything there as opposed to going to a cabinet store, then a countertop place, etc.

Have any of you used Lowes for a kitchen remodel? What did you have done? How did it go? Did they coordinate the different contractors for you? I'd appreciate any input. We are hoping to get this done over the summer, so I need to start planning now.

Not Lowe’s, but Home Depot. We ad already shopped around and figured out that Home Depot had most everything we wanted in our new kitchen. We used their free design services (an amazing former Marine that DH totally bonded with!) to do the kitchen layout and place the orders for cabinets and appliances we selected.

We have a contractor who is going to do the demo for the kitchen and install the new floors and cabinets, as well as some other work. Home depot will be installing countertops. If we hadn’t had a contractor, I would have probably gone with HD’s installers.

We had a contractor for a major home remodel which included a new kitchen.  I had some idea of what I wanted and the style/brand of cabinets, the countertops, and the backsplash were all available through Lowe's.  The contractor worked directly with the staff at Lowe's, who were very helpful.  In fact, in the end, the contractor became a big problem (as seems to often happen) and the kitchen designer at Lowe's was a great help in getting our kitchen finished.  We were very pleased with her--she was knowledgeable regarding a wide range of products and had much helpful advice.  She helped us get some damaged cabinets replaced once the contractor was long out of the picture.

Many years ago (more than 10 years) we used Lowe's for a brand new kitchen and it was fine. We met with a designer in the store and she drew up a plan of the kitchen space similar to what an architect's blueprint looks like. We were then able to choose various cabinet combinations and "try them out" in the drawing. I was happy with the overall service. There was a rather wide variety of cabinet types for all levels of quality and prices from which we could choose.

A friend of ours is contemplating an IKEA kitchen. Don't know if you want to consider this as well. I have no experience with it but she likes the way every last square inch is utilized with most of the IKEA designs.

I recommend looking at Ikea kitchens. Their drawer system for base cabinets and deeper upper cabinets allow you to store more in the same amount of kitchen space. The price is also extremely competitive. They are having a sale right now through some time in April. I'm not sure if they have design services.

I wouldn't rule out a local kitchen design company. We had our design done at one and also at Lowe's, and the local place ended up up being several thousand dollars cheaper for the cabinets. We did our own install. I also would get prices for new cabinets compared to refacing. We had quotes for refacing at our first home and some were more than all new cabinets ended up being.

We have had really poor experiences with appliance delivery and installation from Lowes at our cabin.

We bought a fridge, washer, and dryer at the same time there.  There were signs up all over the store promising next day delivery.  When we said we wanted these the next day, they said, no, we don't know why they say that, we can't do that.  We didn't get our stuff for a couple of weeks, and it was very hard to pin down exactly when it would arrive.

Then a year later we bought a water heater there.  The deal was free delivery but there was an installation fee.  Well, apparently the vendor did not get the memo that delivery was free, because he charged us as much for delivery and installation as the water heater itself cost, AND he never got the permit signed off.  We bugged him about this for 2 YEARS, and it just never happened.  Finally we got an inspection notice from the county saying that it was installed wrong, and that we had to cut a hole in the roof and extend the exhaust pipe to get the permit signed off.  At that point we just gave up.

We have heard great things about Lowes near our home.

I think that they vary from place to place.

If I were starting a big job like that, I would ask a few realtors who they would recommend.  They often have to have things like that done well and quickly, and they would know the local inside scoop really well.

We went with Lowes when we put in our new kitchen a few years ago. Overall we were pleased. The appliances and cabinets were exactly what I wanted. We had considered IKEA but I liked the look of what I found at Lowes better.

The contractor was good and very responsive.  I wasn't happy with the counter but that was a different contractor - I still feel like the seam by the sink is too noticeable. The only thing we arranged ourselves was the floor and that went well also. And the timing was amazing - they tore down our kitchen on Monday morning, had the cabinets/floor in by Thursday, installed a temporary counter on Friday, and I was cooking that Saturday night - less than a week! I've heard of people being without a kitchen for several weeks.

But I'm sure it depend on your local Lowes.
