MarieCurie
Anyone else doing PreK this upcoming year? My DS will be turning five in September, but since his birthday is after the cutoff for school here I'm calling it his PreK year. We're planning on RS math and HWOT. Not sure what to do about reading. We have PP, but he already reads pretty well.
vaquitita
My youngest DS will be 5 in November and this will be his preK year. I came looking for ideas to get motivated to do this for the fourth time. Teaching phonics had definitely lost its bloom. Lol. So far I'm planning just real open and go stuff, stuff that's easy to fit in around the big kids lessons. Right Start 2e level A Developing the early learner Continue AAR pre level HWOT preK Possibly move into get set for the code if he's ready Classic picture books ***I'm considering using LOE because he has trouble making various letter sounds. Much more so than any of my other kids had.*** Edited March 18, 2018 by vaquitita
jrhodes
I'm doing light pre-k with my youngest. He'll be 3, but has a speech delay and acts so much younger so I don't 'expect' as much of it. Our pre-k is pretty light anyway. Pinterest math and science fun sensory/art activities Nursery rhyme curriculum: http://curry.virginia.edu/go/wil/rimes_and_rhymes.htm . I used to with my oldest to work on rhyming skills for reading, but I'll still do the fun stuff with my youngest and hope it works more on his speech.
Holly
My DS just turned 4. Here are my plans: OPGTR and ETC primers Little Books and Animal Friends readers from Abeka. I also picked up Art Projects K4 from Abeka. My older kids each have an Artpac, and this seemed like a similar book Preschool Math at Home and various math manipulative I’ve collected over the years AO Year 0 books—we’ve already started these Child Sized Masterpieces The Story Bible Various audio books and kid’s cds. I’m hoping to wean him off my tablet with these. â˜ºï¸ I’m assuming we’ll stretch these books over 2 years. I’ll also likely pick up some R&S preschool books. All my kids have done at least one of these!
imcl1084tx
My DS will be 5 in Oct and is obsessed w/letters. So i am taking advantage when he is in the mood. We do AAR Pre Reading now. He loves Ziggy. If we get done with that and he is still interested we will probably do AAR 1 in the fall. I won't push him though. MEP Reception maybe MP Junior K Read Alouds and Book of Crafts for Junior K. Lots of Board Games Continue w/speech and feeding therapy if he needs it. I will say he is my first and i am LOVING this age. It is a lot of fun!

2_girls_mommy
I'll have a preKer again next year! It's been a long time. For her basic stuff I will use Rod and Staff ABC workbooks a few times a week for workbooky skills and a bit of content and art. We will read their Bible reader and do the coloring book. In the past, I did the Letter of the Week blog with my preKer alongside it. I will probably do that very roughly. Just do a coloring sheet and read a book and poem from the list on the first day of the week, review the letter and sound with flashcards throughout the week, use the Dr. Seuss ABC book and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and other letter books. We have the Berenstains Nature book mentioned and a million other books. I pull those She will attend either a one day a week preschool co-op that we have been doing or a once a week library storytime program for extras, dance class once a week, homeschool support group monthly kid's days and field trips. That should keep us busy.
Lisa in the UP of MI
DS just turned 4yo. Next year he'll be doing: HWT pre-k/K (is working on pre-k level now) AAR pre-1 MEP Reception BYL year 0 (tagging along with his big brothers) Life Science (or whatever big brothers end up doing, again just tagging along) La Clase Divertida 1 (tagging along with older siblings, but is already into Spanish and asking us what certain words are in Spanish) Religion: various resources, including a children's Bible, short saint stories, and Catholic Children's Treasure Box books
AsgardCA
DD will be 4 in November, so this plan is light. Currently she tags along sometimes, but she does like to be included when everyone else is schooling. We've recently moved to a new province and she isn't required to start school until 5 here. Science, history and BYL are group subjects. I'll have age-appropriate plans for her if she feels inclined to join in. BYL 0 - I might repeat this for her the following year depending how much she participates. I also bought a few books to look at throughout the year, and since BYL 0 is geography and animal science I might have her map where each animal comes from. History: SOTW 3 Science: Mr. Q Earth Math: some of Saxon K Morning time: we sing folk songs, memory songs, O Canada... Language Arts: Wordly Wise K dry-erase alphabet book letter/number magnets, and Leapfrog Word Whammer & videos Kumon books - cutting/pasting/folding, etc. French: I'm not sure if I'll actively start this with her but she'll probably pick some up from listening in. I'd like to add in some sort of outdoor safety unit study. I dislike how so many TV shows portray bears as cute and friendly, she hardly believes us that she could be bear food. While she doesn't go outside without me, she panics easily and either freezes or runs in circles, so...

medawyn
DD will be 4 in November, so we'll be doing some preschool-y things if she's interested. She has table time with her big brother in the afternoon for 30 minutes while little brother settles for a nap (they keep each other up if they start rest at the same time). Starting in the fall we'll do a letter of the week/AAR-pre mash up and play with c-rods and some Gattegno math thrown in + lots of fine motor work and hand strengthening. We'll see where she is as the year progresses. We might start I See Sam and RSA later in the year, but I'm not in any hurry.
Pamela H in Texas
Wyatt turns 4 in July. Mostly? He is interested in running around crazy, gymnastics, and music. He loves going to the park and library. We follow whatever his little heart desires. That sounds pretty good for preK to me. We are pretty laid back. He is only turning 4. So far he knows letter sounds and can sound out cvc words. We'll just keep moving along at his pace. I do want to get him writing some (he writes maybe 5 letters at this point) as well as doing other fine motor things (cutting, coloring, etc) a bit better. So that leaves something for math? I think he knows most of what he needs for Kindy/1st. So, I might just stick with some kind of calendar/circle time math. I might look at FIAR. I enjoyed it, kids enjoyed it, and its nice and laid back :)

Mimm
Wow, look at all the detailed plans. I'm feeling lazy now. ? I'm going to do A Year of Playing Skillfully. We have AAR and she's lost interest and I'm hoping she gets back into it some time over the next school year. And lots and lots of reading aloud. Mostly we're nuts about extracurricular stuff. She's in dance and gymnastics and piano. We plan to play indoor soccer this winter and after she turns five in November, I can sign her up for homeschool swim lessons at an indoor pool.

Mimm
My daughter absolutely loves Ziggy. But since it's not really important to me that she learn to read yet, we only do AAR when she asks, and she simply hasn't asked recently. I'll probably offer more once the school year starts, and take it a tad more seriously after she turns five. She is sounding out CVC words pretty easily and can read a Bob book without too much fuss. My older two go to public school so we will be following that schedule more or less. ?

Icesk8abc
My daughter just turned 4. We do preschool work a couple times a week. We will continue with Saxon K, phonics pathways, Rod & Staff About 3 series, Awana, and various crafty things. This year we are adding the Berenstain Bears Science book, some Social Studies stuff from when I taught 1st, and some lessons from Kids of Integrity. I may also start her on the basics of piano if she continues to ask. We usually do library story time every week. I’m also joining BSF in September so she will have a little class through that. She wants to take dance, but we have to convince Daddy. Edited August 10, 2018 by Icesk8abc
Reverie
My son will be turning five this winter, so this will be a prekindergarten/ transitional kindergarten year. We will be using Wee Folk Art's Simple Seasons units for themed science, nature studies, crafts, art, and activities. I will be creating our own 'letter of the week' activities based on his interests. I may use MEP Reception for math, otherwise, math will be continuing to follow his interests in our daily activities (addition/ subtraction/ measuring/ counting, etc.). He will also be included as much as he wishes in my third-grade daughter's activities. She will be using Wee Folk Art's Cultural Connections units, Oak Meadow Third Grade, RightStart Math D, Building Foundations of Scientific Understanding, and other resources. Editing to add that he loves science experiments, so we will be doing lots of those as well. ? Edited August 27, 2018 by Reverie

That should keep us busy. So, our year has started and is going well. I added the Kate Snow book, Preschool Math at Home to my list. I picked it up at the library before I even noticed that WTM was starting to promote her older books. I had picked up a stack of preschool math books, and that was the best one. So for now, I am just constantly rechecking it. As long as nobody else requests a book, I can now check out books for up to 6 months. I have been then turning them in and rerequesting them and have been able to save on some textbooks that my kids are using. I am risking it in that somebody else could come along and request it and then I have to turn it in, but at that point I can obviously buy it if necessary! So our days have been going like: do a page from the R&S A book *this week learning how to draw circles correctly* then a game from the Snow book once a week or so. A story from the Rod and Staff B book (bible stories and colring pages,) a couple of times a week. Then a story and poem or two from What Your Preschooler Needs to Know along with any games or whatnot that I have to go along. So far so good. For letters I am keeping it so simple. I pull out a new magnet from her leapfrog letter magnets each week in order. We reveiw the older letters, practice the new one, and look at flaschcards. So far this is working fine. She is starting to notice the letters we have covered while out and about and I point them out in stories we are reading to reinforce. I have an Elsa dollar store workbook of the alphabet to trace her letters in a little too. Her once a week playschool will be reinforcing the letters once it starts up. She has dance classes once a week for music and movement, and Sunday School and Children's Church. Crafts are done at all of these places as well as at home occasionally. So we are up for a fun year, but with out a lot of time commitment from me thankfully!
Chey
My daughter turned 4 in November and is when we began homeschooling her. We started our first year homeschooling in July with her big sister. For my Pre-K kiddo I've been doing the basics of colors, shapes, numbers, letters and letter sounds etc. Letters - I went through Pintrest and free online sources to put together my own letter of the week binder for her. Monday she has two coloring introduction pages, one with the capital letter and one with the lowercase. Tuesday is a fun look and find for just the lowercase and capital letters inside a shape starting with the letter and tracing of the capital and lowercase at the bottom. Wednesday she has a fun Q-tip paint of a picture of something starting with the letter and the letters at the bottom along with a short paragraph page focused on the letter that I read to her then she finds all the capital and lowercase of the letter in the paragraph. Thursday she has another look and find page but now with mixed letters so it's a little more challenging. Friday she has a sort of review page with tracing and pictures for the letter sound. Numbers - I did the same as the letters and have done a sort of number of the week binder as well. She had different types of pages for numbers 1-10 but in the pictures are the types we're using now for 11-20. She also traces the number of the day on a calendar sheet I printed out for her and I talk to her about the days of the week, what was yesterday, today and tomorrow etc. I don't have her write much other than her name without tracing it. But she's also working on tracing lines to help with writing skills. Other than that - We play a lot of neat games I found at The Measured Mom and other sites and she loves Khan Academy Kids so much and Teach Your Monster to Read. I bought her a VTech Touch and Learn Activity Desk Deluxe, pink for Christmas and hope to get the pre-k and kindergarten expansion packs for it soon. She likes playing on it for her letters and numbers for calling a friend lol. She plays a few games on her LeapPad 3 for various skills and she listens in on the audiobook and read aloud we do with her sister.
