Rebecca
Hive, My ninth grade son is in Teaching Textbooks Algebra 1 (2.0). I want to outsource math for him next year. I need him to have a rock solid Algebra foundation. Note: I am not a rock solid Math teacher. I am an English and Writing teacher. What would you do? We have Saxon Math with the Saxon Teacher CD-Rom. We all pretty much hate it. My students (older two brothers) typically tank in the course by the middle of the year. :( I am willing to put him into a course online for the rest of this year and the summer- but I have no idea what to choose. I have looked at Derek Owens AOPS Introduction to Algebra A and tonight- I found: Mathhelp.com https://www.mathhelp.com/homeschoolmathcurriculum/ I am outsourcing Geometry next year- either at our academic co-op or online. I actually wanted him to take Geometry and Algebra 2 next year and was advised against it because of the "weak" TT foundation. I really appreciate any feedback. Thank you! fourisenough
Derek Owens is good and flexible; could start now and work through summer.
RootAnn
Derek Owens is good and flexible; could start now and work through summer. :iagree: I'd start him in DO's Algebra 1. Hopefully, he'll fly through the first part. Then, if he's self-motivated enough or you are a really good nag, I'd do Geo locally (if it is a good program) & DO's Alg 2 once he's done with Alg 1.
