Brave Writer Question

I realized this last week that I need to get a different writing instructor than myself for my boys.  I'm turning to Brave Writer.

When I go on the site for the online classes it says we should begin with The Writer's Jungle.  But

when I research a bit about The Writers Jungle it looks like its a class on how I can help my boys while teaching

them.  They will be going into 8th grade and I'm wanted to have someone else teach them from now on with their online classes.

So Do I need that class first?  The Writer's Jungle?   OR do I skip it for what my goal is?

I think they usually suggest kids middle school and up start with Kidswrite Intermediate.

My dd was a bit older when we started and I called up and talked to Julie herself, who gave me good advice on where to place her.  She still suggested Kidswrite, but I got her blessing to start her on the more targeted classes based on what I said she'd already covered.  The classes worked out very well.

I think they often suggest Kidswrite Basic for young middle schoolers, actually. And that may or may not be what you're looking for - it's more to coach you to coach them. Other classes are more for the kids. Write and ask them for guidance. They're super friendly.

The Writer's Jungle is a book that contains the philosophy of BW as well as exercises for getting started with it. The Kidswrite classes are meant to do the same thing with more handholding for you from an instructor. You can get both, but the idea is that you either need the book or the class, not both.

They just changed their classes this past semester. What was Kidswrite Intermediate has been split into three different classes, each called Essay Prep (and then a subtitle). My 9th grader took Kidswrite Intermediate in the fall and is taking the Essay Prep: Reading the Essay now. They have both been great, and I think for most kids 8th grade would have been appropriate. Wrirting is my son’s least favorite and weakest subject and Bravewriter has been a godsend. It’s the first writing approach that he not only seems to enjoy but seems to help him produce good results.

I have done basically nothing with either class as far as instruction. The instructors give fantastic feedback. I can access his assignments so I can see what he does but I don’t have to do anything unless I want to.
