mommy123
What books do you recommend for kids ages 11-12? Besides the classics. I'm mostly wondering about more recent authors. What good literature can I put in their hands? They are avid readers (a boy and two girls). I'm having a hard time finding books worth reading in our library. Tell me where to look! LOL Thanks! 2Peanuts
I love the blog What Do We Do All Day (http://www.whatdowedoallday.com). She has booklists for everything, including ones grouped by age. I find lots of great recommendations there.

Now, this list isn't sorted at all. I made no effort to distinguish between realistic and speculative fiction, or between ya and middle grade. Actually, this is just the order they popped up on my saved bitly links. But they all were published within the last 20 years, with the exception of The Thief. In that case, the most recent book in the series was published this year, so I grandfathered (granddaughtered?) it in.

And I’ve got several of them on my To-Read list. Tanaqui, I like your taste in books! :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Aurelia
Un Lun Dun The Stranger at Green Knowe Momo (Ende) The War that Saved My Life (and the sequel) The Death Defying Pepper Roux Gypsy Girl (Godden) The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate and sequel The Birchbark House series (the protaganist is 11 and 12 in The Game of Silence and The Porcupine Year) El Deafo Smile and its sequel The Moorchild The City of Ember series The Prydain Chronicles Moon Over Manifest Wonder Flora and Ulysses The Tale of Despereaux The One and Only Ivan For middle school, authors I like are Rumer Godden, Geraldine McCaughrean and Neil Gaiman, but you have to be careful which books to pick because all write both kids/YA and adult books.
