Jenny in Florida
My son is auditioning this weekend for the dance program at his university. He's already enrolled as a theatre major, but they are required to complete a related minor. He's been dancing since forever and already logged two years as a dance major at another university before transferring. So, he has a ton of experience and training. The requirements for the audition include a resume listing "all dance experience, training and performance." This feels like it calls for something more comprehensive than his usual auditioning-for-a-show resume, for which he picks and chposes elements that are relevant to the specific production or role. I've offered to take care of this for him, since I have traditionally been the keeper of records and he's busy with midterms. I've spent the morning digging up all the previous versions of his resume that I have on my computer, and I tried asking my friend Google to show me examples of dance resumes, but I don't feel like I have a handle on what is expected, here. One thing I noticed in the examples I saw online was that none of them ran past one page, but if he lists everything he's done in anything bigger than a 10-pt font, there's no way it's going to fit on a single page. So, I'm trying to figure out ways to group/summarize things and what makes sense to leave out. If anyone has examples to share -- via PM if you wouldn't mind sharing yours/your offspring's or links to stuff online -- I'd appreciate it. Thanks. klmama
Since they are asking for all of his experience, it seems like they'd understand if it required more than one page or needed to be in a smaller font. Could he call the dance office and ask if they have a preference for one over the other?
katilac
They specify "all dance experience" so I would not hesitate to go past one page. Just put 1 of 3, 2 of 3, and so on.
Jenny in Florida
They specify "all dance experience" so I would not hesitate to go past one page. Just put 1 of 3, 2 of 3, and so on. Thanks. By making a couple of editorial choices, stripping out anything every vaguely interesting in terms of formatting and using 11-point type, we managed to to fit the important stuff on two pages (front and back of a single sheet). For example, some sites suggested including every performance including recitals, but we made the decision not to list 12 or 13 years' worth of those, especially since one of the dance schools he attended did both a winter showcase and a normal spring recital. It packs a lot of info into the space while still looking clean and readable.
