Jean in Newcastle
take son to airport try to make some sense of my world. (Not because of my son. Things have just gone to pot since having a needy puppy. It will get better but the house is messy and I'm tired and . . . )
Faithr
Good morning! It is super foggy out and supposed to go up to 60 degrees today! But I think be rainy also. Today is certamen day! We have 8 kids and two teams competing. My biggest fear is that the organizers will try to recruit me to be a moderator. I always feel intensely intimidated by all those Latin teachers since I just learned along with me own teens and never got past the NLE 2 level! So that will take up most of the day. Dh has been doing amazing things cleaning out and reorganizing our basement. Today the carpet guys are coming to fix our carpet in what we are now dubbing the media room. We had to rip out the built in shelves so there is a big gap between where the carpet ends and the wall begins. Ds 22 yo is going to take ds 19 yo to his flute lesson this a.m. DD 16 yo is up in New York for the weekend, having a blast hopefully! No idea what's for dinner. I kind of want dh to take me out, but that might not happen as I think he is planning on visiting his dad today. Happy Saturday!
ScoutTN
A quiet morning here, a few hours to just be still. Very rare on a Saturday for us. About to make some hot tea and read. Later: Pick up dd from sleepover ✅ Grocery ✅ Take mom from the rehab place to her home and get her settled. Stay until the next helper comes. ✅ dinner - possibly out to eat? Alessandra
Quiet day here too. Appreciate it because last few weekends were full of scheduled things.
Selkie
Good morning! I am hoping for a very relaxing, nonproductive day today. Yesterday, I pushed through my migraine to get a lot of work done, and boy, was that an epic mistake. By the end of the day, all I could manage was to lay on the couch like a lifeless blob with a heating pad on my head - it was ugly! Today, the headache is gone but the migraine hangover remains, so I'm doing no work other than making sure all my humans and animals are fed. •read and relax •spend a lot of time with horses •try to find my favorite yoga pants which have gone missing (check dd's room first :001_rolleyes: ) •dinner: creamy broccoli soup •watch hockey tonight

Alessandra
We had a cheerful, relaxing breakfast. I did the frugal housewife thing -- made omelettes with leftover roasted potatoes, plus shallots and herbs (and Brie for dd). Dd also had a TJ Irish banger (sausage, only stocked this time of year). I cut the remains of the wheel of Brie into easy portions for kid snacking. Weekend breakfasts always cheer me up, partly because we have wonderful M A Hadley pottery with farm animals on it. Mary Alice Hadley was one of a group of women ceramists in the 1930's. I recently got cute farm animal napkin rings -- colored resin, not too cartoony, but not in 'ghastly good taste' all-white ceramic either. Anyway, eating with a bunch of smiling pigs and cows always puts me in a good mood. (Why I am not a minimalist.) PSA: Sunday NY Times has a whole section devoted to puzzles, in addition to their regular puzzles. ETA Selkie, hope you are feeling better today. Jean in Newcastle
My sleep is shrinking and my frustration levels are growing. But that is how it is with babies. Dishwasher rebooted. One load of laundry folded and put away. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
SKL
1 kid to horse riding. Some house cleaning. Rearrange some furniture and stuff. Hopefully the kids behave and all is peaceful. Work. A little reading. Read-aloud?
Alessandra
It's amazing how a good sleep and no urgent tasks can brighten one's day. We went to our town dump to drop off some metal or recycling. What an attractively neat and tidy place, lol! We meandered off to the local library, which was buzzing with lectures and a concert. The vegetable store was filled with fresh, bright produce. No, I am not on drugs. I slept late and am well rested. Everything is better!

I looked up Mary Alice Hadley's work and like it very much, especially the farm animals. :) I'm a minimalist at heart, but I enjoy reading your descriptions of your beautiful table settings and meals. Today has been a much-needed lazy day. I mopped the kitchen floor because it was filthy, but other than that, I've just been reading and goofing around online. Oh, I did DNA swab tests on two of my mutts, who were surprisingly cooperative. Can't wait to get the results. Dh and kids are out taking a walk in the 34* rain (crazy people), and when they get back, we will run get sushi for dinner.
Jean in Newcastle
I have tried to “sleep with the baby†but it isn’t working. So instead I : Did the hand washing and wiped down counters. Put another load in the washing machine. Now dh has made it impossible for me to vacuum because he’s taking a nap so I am going to crate baby and meet my day 41 step goal. I always wanted to live in a place where I could have horses, but I didn't realize quite how much work it was, until reading your day by day descriptions. But I do love the smell of a stable and the sounds of the animals.
ScoutTN
Got home from dinner out to find our water heater doesn't work. No one here has showered today; kids not since Wed. So no church for us tomorrow. I am still sick and dd was up way late at a sleepover, so a day to sleep in is okay. We could go to my mom's, but it's too much work, too late. Dh has to wait on the repair guy, who is supposed to come tomorrow. The "window" is 8am-4pm. Of course, the warranty is just a few months expired. At least the water heater isn't leaking or flooding our family room! When that happened, we had a lot of collateral damage, in addition to replacing the unit itself.
