ktgrok
So, I had a tooth that she referred me out for a root canal for. Saw the endodontist today for that, and when he took the x-ray he saw that the tooth next to it has a big abcess. That tooth already had a root canal, by my dentist not the endodontist, and as he put it "it was a crappy job". She didn't go deep enough, so the stuff they put in there didn't go all the way to the bottom of the root chamber. Leaving infection that has accessed into the bone. Even worse, she did the same thing to my husband! He has a tooth that has an abscess that needs to be treated (that's he's been putting off) and it is also one that she did a root canal on already! I'm betting it is the same problem. I'm so pissed. We've spent a ton of money there over the past few years! In fact I just paid them $900 for a bridge that they said was covered by insurance but wasn't. I never would ahve done it if I'd known. ARGH. Cindy in FL.
Well, that really stinks. I hope that you can both get the issues fixed quickly and correctly. It seems like you’re due an apology and a refund from your dentist!
OneStepAtATime
:grouphug: Sounds like you need a new dentist. I would write a clear letter as to why you are leaving and keep it to just facts so that hopefully, if she cares at all, she will work to improve her skills, but I would change dentists.
JFSinIL
Why did the dentist and not an endo. do the first root canals? I would definitely be on the lookout for a new dentist.
ktgrok
Why did the dentist and not an endo. do the first root canals? I would definitely be on the lookout for a new dentist. She said she does them for certain teeth, and only refers out for multi root teeth. And yes, we won't be going back to her. Ever. Already asking around for other options.
Kassia
I'm so sorry! This happened to one of my sons when he was away at college. Instead of sending him to the campus dental school for treatment we had him go to the dental faculty practice (private practice) thinking he'd get excellent care. They ruined five of his teeth and charged us a fortune. He is still having problems now and probably always will due to the crappy treatment he received there. Our family dentist wrote them two letters describing the damage and telling them they should refund our money (we had to pay for their terrible work and then even more to repair it) but they refused. G5052
There was a dentist where I grew up and lived that was like that. My first cavity at 30 went right to a root canal, and he sent me out for it in a flash. Even the endodontist commented that it probably "brewed" for several years before he got to it. He seriously messed up my mother multiple times before she finally left. Later I had a bunch of cavities after my oldest because I had horrible morning sickness, and that dentist and the next have always caught them early enough that they were just filled. J-rap
That exact thing happened to my dh, for TWO root canals that he had done by the same dentist, who also happens to be a friend -- so very awkward. We live in a small town and there are no specialists for miles. This dentist does a lot of root canals with no problems. But I guess my dh's roots had a little upward "curve" at the ends (confirmed by the endodontist), so they really needed special attention. Infections set in at the tip of that curve in both teeth, and he had to have them both redone. (It happened at different times, maybe six months apart -- even though he had the two original root canals at the same time.) We drove three hours to be seen by an endodontist for the re-do's. We'll never see a regular dentist again for a root canal after that experience. It was a very expensive mistake.
Carrie12345
:grouphug: Two of my kids had failed root canals on the same day when they were little. We knew that root canals on kids might be iffy, but bad on both of them? Done on the same day? :glare:
