poppy
There was recently a thread where we talked a bit about the actor The Rock. Today I watched Jumanji and I realized , all this time I did not know who The Rock / Dwayne Johnson is. I’d been picturing Vin Deisel the whole time. What is your Chat Board oops moment ?

Bluegoat
Hmm, I am sure I've had one, but I will have to let my brain percolate a bit to remember. Did Vin Diesel start out as a wrestler too? They are in similar kinds of movies to a certain extent.
Baseball mom
Don't think Vin Diesel started out in wrestling. But he and The Rock have been in the same movies.
mellifera33
For a long time I thought that Kevin Bacon and Kiefer Sutherland were the same person. Actually I’m pretty terrible with actors in general. My dh has an encyclopedic knowledge of movies and actors and can’t handle my incompetence in this area. :p
maize
Faceblindness means I can't generally tell actors apart or remember who is who. I certainly can't visualize any of them. I'm lucky if I manage to keep track of the main actors throughout a movie--if their clothes change I'm lost. This may be one reason I don't watch movies much! One of the reasons that I'm less likely to watch North American TV shows is that the actors, particularly the women, all have such regular features that I get confused. If they are of different races or hair colours, then I'm okay. Otherwise, I lose track. I've done those online tests for face-blindness and I don't score very high, but I just can't tell pretty people apart.
Georgiana Daniels
I also have a hard time telling people apart. Unless someone has really distinctive features or personality, I have to meet them 2 or 3 times before I remember who they are. Struggling right now because we moved to a new town and everyone is new! It's embarrassing and keeps me from jumping in with new people. ImhoI think it’s just that Hollywood ladies seem to me to be cut from similar molds. There’s less diversity in their view of beauty. There’s the cute girl, the lovely gentle girl, the bad girl, and the hot girl. Few of them have distinctive memorable “looksâ€. British and European stars are less like this. My girls and I have commented on this many times. Just my opinion. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I’m Asian and I know that a lot of people in other races say that they can’t tell us apart. Even though I’ve lived the in US my entire life I get confused with Caucasian people. I’ve often put their pictures side by side and I just cannot tell some of them apart. Surprisingly, it’s easier for me to tell African Americans apart than Caucasians. I have no idea why. OMG I confuse those two all the time. DH does also. The other night I forced DD to watch The Cutting Edge in homage to the Olympics, and we both swore that DB Sweeney could have passed for Ant Man (Paul Rudd).

I'm usually good at facial recognition. What is weird is there are a lot more actors compared to Canadian to UK tv, but they all have a similar look. Lady Florida.
I used to confuse The Rock and Vin Diesel but I eventually managed to separate the two. The only other confusion I can think of is one that's fairly common - Bill Pullman or Bill Paxton? This is an old article (90s) but apparently everyone was getting them mixed up at one time so I had an excuse. http://ew.com/article/1996/08/02/bill-pullman-and-bill-paxton-share-limelight/

I FINALLY had a face to put with Paxton, but then I would have to try to remember which last name with the x it was. Now I remember him for his heart condition, which runs in my extended family).
PeachyDoodle
Once I argued with the boards over whether or not a certain actor appeared in North & South. Turns out everyone else was discussing the (apparently very popular) BBC series, while I was suck on the 1980's American miniseries about the US Civil War.. Oops. :blushing:
