ktgrok
Kid health issue question. We have a stomach bug in the house. My 8 yr old never vomited but ate very little for about 36 hours, just some crackers and fruit and water. Woke up this morning shaking and barely speaking. No fever, Sp02 was normal, pulse around 100. Gave her gatorade and some smarties candy and she perked up and is now fine. My mom is freaking out and wants me to take her to the doctor. I am NOT taking her in to a Flu infested place when she is feeling fine now. I'm watching her closely. I will call her pediatrician on monday to inform them and see what they say. Am I missing something here? Is there anything a doctor could do right now that I'm not doing? Is this indicative of some other issue? hornblower
I'd just think she was dehydrated and had super low blood sugars. If she's perking up then I tend to agree with you. I'd probably try to ask her questions about stuff & see if she's 'all there', kwim? About shows she watches or books or stories or games. If all tracks normal, follow up tomorrow.

She's totally with it now. Using words like "properly" and "nibble" and complete sentences. Just watched a movie and followed along normally.
Rachel
It sounds like she is ok now. She was probably a bit dehydrated from not drinking much the last couple days. I’d keep pushing fluids for now.
Katy
As long as she keeps down more fluids even the pediatrician's office would tell you to stay home at this point.
Sandwalker
It sounds like dehydration and low blood sugar. The concern I'd have is if those symptoms repeated or if she has any symptoms of diabetes, like overactive thirst and urination.
plansrme
That would happen to me if I did not eat for 36 hours. I always assume it is low blood sugar, but that is a Dr. Me diagnosis. I would just be sure she has some protein with her carbs today.
sassenach
Dd used to have pretty strong reactions to "normal" low blood sugar. Sounds like that. I think you're making the right call. My dd needed protein to stabilize (after the initial bumping her up with carbs).
ktgrok
Thank you. She's fine now but I did use the Teladoc service just so my mom would stop worrying lol
