fourisenough
I asked on another thread, but thought I might reach a wider audience by starting a new thread on this specific topic. I’m interested in any feedback from those who have had a child take Blue Tent’s Honors Bio. There’s a lot of info out there about their English classes, but not much on the sciences that I have found. Details about workload, rigor, quality of assignments, fairness in grading, etc. would be especially helpful. Thanks in advance to anyone who can contribute. SunshineMom
My dd took Blue Tent's Honor's Biology last school year. The class read the entire Holt Biology book, had multiple dissection labs, quizzes, exams, weekly assignments, group and research projects and papers. If I remember correctly, the course took between five to seven hours each week to complete reading and other assignments. Overall my dd enjoyed the class and did very well in it. What age/grade was your daughter last year?
SunshineMom
She was an 8th grader and was interested in biology. My dd just reminded me that the end of the year research papers (two) were 5-6pgs each. Hope this helps.
mirabillis
do you know if blue tent prepares you for sat II biology test? how does blue tent work? i understand it is asynchronous, not live? how do the students learn the material, how does it work? we've been burned by 1 asynchronous class but like 3 others... so wondering what makes blue tent work? (counselinggirl-you can weigh in with english experience, i imagine the format may be similar? we are thinking of it for my rising dd#2 9th grader) we had planned to go wtma bio all along, as my son loved it. but text is changing next year (we already have holt) and no longer includes labs so no lab credit unless you pay another $350 for the extra 1/2 credit lab. 1.5 credits science, sounds like overkill.
