BlsdMama
Okay, so two weeks ago I began to get sores on my legs. I looked at them and they clearly looked like ringworm. I used athlete's foot cream on them and another anti-fungal. Then they began to spread. I have them on my arms, my hands, one on a shoulder, a few on my abdomen, more on my legs. So I did what any sane human does - I washed everything and checked for bedbugs. And c hecked again. And again. Someone (oh so gently) suggested scabies. I went to the urgent care. The gal there said it was systemic fungal infection and I'd need oral meds. Fine. Confirmed it was definitely NOT scabies (no trails) and didn't think it looked like bedbug bites either. But I went to my doc too. He said the same thing. That was a week ago. I am LOSING my mind. I itch. Now, I realize my body DESPISES me at this point. But, honestly, I need some kind of solution. The legs, for the most part, seem to be healing up, except for a couple. The hands itch. I have a medium size lesion on my arm that looks like it might be clearing. The ones on my abdomen are a little better. The one on the shoulder is a little worse. I understand diet changes and not feeding the infection with sugar. DH is picking up some really high quality probiotics this afternoon. Is there ANYTHING else I can do?
Selkie
I had nummular eczema last year and it looked just like ringworm and was so itchy. Has that been ruled out? You need to treat it with hydrocortisone. Mine started on my lower legs and then spread to my arms and torso. I got it right after I had the flu last spring, and I think my immune system was out of whack. It took weeks for it to go away but it hasn't come back. KrissiK
I’m not going to tell you what to do, but I will share my experience. Several years ago I starting having horrible problems with my fingernails. They were turning ugly and developed pus pockets of staff infection under the nail. My-at-the-time GP was prescribing Cipro for the infections as well as giving me home remedies for the nails. After a month or two of such nonsense I insisted on seeing a dermatologist who cultured my fingernails, and diagnosed the root cause as candida yeast and put me on several months of diflucan. It’s not good for your liver and I had to have a couple of tests, but it took care of the problem. Rachel
My son recently had Pityriasis rosca. It looks for all the world like ringworm and kept spreading, it is actually viral. His pediatrician hasn’t seen it in years and then had two cases in a week. I wonder if the itching you are experiencing are the sores themselves or something secondary, like the sores causing super dry patches of skin (this was the case for my son). If you aren’t improving, I would probably go to a dermatologist just because so many skin conditions can look similar but aren’t treated the same. I hope you can get relief soon! itsheresomewhere
You might want to read up on each one of your medicines for all the side effects. Incase those could be one of those rare ones that most doctors/pharmacists don’t know. I would also see a dermatologist. wintermom
She's on a systemic anti-fungal right now. I don't see in the post where she is actually taking meds. Some people choose not to as they are hard on the liver, and I believe they are not recommended if you are pregnant.
3 ladybugs
I second going to a dermatologist. I have had really strange conditions with my skin twice in my life. Both times it was dermatologists that figured out how to "fix" it. Neither seemed like they were "dermatological" but they both really were. Crimson Wife
Candida die-off can be horrible (Herxheimer reaction). Your cytokines go haywire in reaction to the antifungal medicine killing off the yeast. Take activated charcoal, Vitamin C, and soak in Epson Salt baths. Some people say that colloidal silver is helpful if you want to give that a try.
eternalsummer
Oh, I guess I read that wrong. Sorry! No, I think I might have read it wrong! Evidently the two different doctors recommended a systemic anti-fungal but I don't know if she is taking one. OP, I would take the anti-fungal if your primary care doc approves.
