Alice
I run a book club for my daughter and her friends. They are all 8 years old and in 2nd or 3rd grade. There is a wide range of reading abilities but most are pretty much on grade level or a little above. Books we’ve done to give an example: The Happy Hollisters, The Hundred Dresses by Eleanor Estes, Sarah Plain and Tall, Ellen Tebbits, Otis Spofford, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. I’m trying to pick our next book...any thoughts?
6packofun
The Family Under the Bridge Dr. Doolittle? (Can't remember actual titles) If they can handle slightly more difficult (books labeled for 8-12) and you're OK with a selection that isn't a "classic", my vote is for The Book Scavenger by Jennifer Chambliss Bertman or Wonder by R.J. Palacio.
Farrar
The One and Only Ivan The Toothpaste Millionaire El Deafo The Chalkbox Kid Tornado Frindle Those are at a slight range of lengths and abilities, but all about 3rd grade level. You could also do something where everyone reads several fairy tales or folk tales together. Or you could do a book of poetry like Love That Dog or Joyful Noise.
happi duck
I remember thinking The Year of Miss Agnes would be a good book for a book club.
