Faithr
My 16 yo dd wanted to study Environmental Science for her 11th grade. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with Hashimoto's and we are having a devil of a time trying to get her on an even keel. She is responding to medication very, very slowly. Anyway, she is suffering depression, anxiety, brain fog, terrible fatigue, etc. She just couldn't do a full load of courses this year. So science got dropped. We are hoping that as she gets better she'll be able to do a summer course. But where? I just am not good at doing science at home so we've always farmed it out. In fact in 12th grade she plans to take physics with our local high school co-op. But she's interested in environmental science and really wanted to study that too. Anybody know of something that fits our criteria? Can be done over the summer and is on line? Thanks for any input!
Hilltopmom
I don’t know of an online one but the Holt textbook program is pretty gentle.
TCB
My dd did a dual credit online Intro to Environmental Science course + Lab. They used a text book by Cunningham. She did the course (4 credit hours) in 8 weeks but it was pretty intense. If you were doing it over the summer with no other subjects to work on it probably would be easier going. The text book only has 16 chapters so it is doable in a shorter length of time. ETA - The text has an access card you can buy (I think called a Connect card) that gets you onto a website with assigned homework and test etc. so I would imagine you could maybe do that if you wanted to use the text at home. The professor from the college had assignments that he had chosen for them to do but I think you could get on there and choose your own if you had the access card - not sure about that though because this is the first time we used anything like it. Faithr
tcb, was your dd's dual enrollment through your local community college or state virtual school? Or was it a program anyone can enroll in? Thanks so much.
TCB
tcb, was your dd's dual enrollment through your local community college or state virtual school? Or was it a program anyone can enroll in? Thanks so much. It was an online course from Central Methodist University. I believe anyone can enroll. My dh is a professor at CMU so it was free for her and largely why we chose to do it there. It was actually quite a good course though, better than I expected, and the professor was very quick with grading etc. It was completely online so I would think you could enroll wherever you lived and do the course. I would imagine that there are other similar online courses though, so probably worth looking for where you live. My dd enjoyed it and learned quite a lot.

Renai
I saw one offered on Outschool.com. But it is AP prep. It's 2 times a week for 10 weeks, so can probably be done over the summer if you request times. Eta: oops, that is just first semester.
