EmilyGF
Any suggestions for something I could read that might help me get a grasp on my gifted kid who likely has some level of ADHD? (If it helps, I am gifted, too, and, in retrospect, have a lot of the same character traits she has.) Thanks, Emily
EmilyGF
It is coming up because we're part of a multi-age coop and DD11 interrupting (ADHD) the high schoolers when they talk about Shakespeare to correct them. So we've got the ADHD thread and the gifted thread causing problems. Basically, at a coop meeting when we were trying to troubleshoot a variety of problems, someone said, "Basically, if we can get your DD11 to toe the line, everything will run much more smoothly." Which is true. I wasn't offended. She interrupts all.the.time and I would hate being the high schooler on the other end. Emily
pinewarbler
Not sure if you know, but ADHD is commonly misdiagnosed in the gifted. Short article by James Webb, who studies hundreds of gifted children... based on his book: Misdiagnosis and Dual Diagnosis of Gifted Children There are a lot of difficult issues with gifted children as a result of their overexcitabilities. (psychomotor, intellectual, sensual, imaginational and emotional). I've read articles that suggests that higher the IQ, the higher number of OE's. I have to say that this is the thing that clinched it for me that my youngest was gifted when he was only 6 months old, and testing bore it out. I didn't realize until I had kids that many of my issues are intertwined with giftedness. Some days, I think it would be nice to be able to block some of it out, and "If this is giftedness, can I regift?"
