News:Low-income students free SAT, ACT reports, CSS profile, college app fee waivers starting Spring/Fall 2018

Recommended Posts

“As we shared with our member leaders this fall, the College Board will provide unlimited SAT score reports for low-income students starting spring 2018. In addition, CSS Profile will become completely free for low-income students. We will also continue our longstanding partnership with higher education to provide college application fee waivers so that the entire application process will be free for low-income students.

- Statement from David Coleman, President and CEO of the College Board, Dec. 13, 2017

...

This applies to all income-eligible students who take the SAT, whether they take it during a weekend national administration or through a School Day administration.

...

And starting in fall 2018, CSS Profile will also allow an unlimited number of CSS Profile applications for first-time, domestic college applicants who take the SAT with a fee waiver or meet income-eligibility criteria.â€

“IOWA CITY, Iowa—Starting in September 2018, students from low-income families who take the ACT with fee waivers will be allowed to send ACT score reports for free to colleges and/or scholarship agencies at any time during their college search process.

...

ACT’s new policy will waive that fee for students who register for the test with a fee waiver. The free score reports—up to 20 for each test students take with a fee waiver—will never expire, so students may use them whenever they wish.†http://leadershipblog.act.org/2017/12/act-will-offer-free-score-reports-to.html?m=1

May I ask: what does CSS Profile mean?

All I know is CSS Profile is more detailed than the FAFSA and is used by colleges as one of the means to decide on non federal aid package.

You could start a thread and ask any questions you have about CSS Profile. Someone mentioned the CSS Profile even asked about make and model of family cars.

Wait, they charge money for score reports?!  I thought that was included in the fee for the test.  Ideally the SAT would be free for low income (or heck anyone).

You get four free reports per SAT test - must be done within 30 days best to do it before the test

Ah ok. I didn't recall having to pay extra, but that was 1000 years ago and I only applied to one school so I guess that's why I did not know!

Unless your student is sure they obtained the target score, you might want to wait to see your score before you request to submit it to schools. Scores are coming back in less time these days, so you might be able to see the score and request it before the 30 days deadline.

You can request for the four free score reports up to 9 Days after the test. You won’t be able to see the results first.

“After Test Day

You can still send four free score reports to colleges up to nine days after the test—after that there's a fee for sending score reports, unless you’re eligible for an SAT fee waiver.†https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat/scores/sending-scores/how-to-send
