ktgrok
Is there a brand that is trendy or whatever? He wants it for when he volunteers at a bird rehab place. Out in the heat, etc.
happypamama
Don’t know about trendy, but our Klean Kanteens hold up really well. Mine is nine years old, used hard, and still looks close to new. (Mine is plain stainless steel; the kids’ identical bottles are in great physical shape, but the color has worn off on several of them.) MysteryJen
Around here, every teen seems to have a Hydroflask. They are tough and really keep things cold. My swimmers wanted one after seeing all the AZ teams have them at a AZ meet. There are lots of cool colors, too.
Tess in the Burbs
We love our hydroflask. Insulate, but heavy. Keeps it cold or hot. Variety of sizes, colors, lid tops. You can get designs engraved on them. I'm in WA state and everyone we know uses these. Second one the kids use is Nalgene. Lightweight but sweats if ice in it. Can get a sipping insert since to is so wide.
prairiewindmomma
Hydroflask--$30 on amazon. The double wall vacuum stainless steel thing is awesome.
Kebo
I've used both Hydroflask and Contigo Autoseal and like them both very well. The Contigo is easier to drink from one handed (which is why we have lots of them), but doesn't have a carry loop like the Hydroflasks do. Both are excellent about keeping water cold. catz
The insulated Kleen Kanteens are our absolute favorite and we've had many types. You can get pull top drinking covers for them.
lewber
Another hydroflask vote here.

PinkTulip
Hydroflasks are the "in" thing here with my teens.
ktgrok
Thank you all! The "in" thing is what I was looking for :) Hydroflask seems to win out.
ktgrok
ok, dumb question, from a very sleep deprived woman: what size would you get? Want it to be enough water, but not so big it's a hassle to carry around. And I'm TERRIBLE with visualizing measurements. Ali in OR
Yes, Hydroflask is definitely the "in" water bottle, and for good reason. They're fantastic. I do fine with a 20 oz wide mouth (regular sip lid that comes with it), filling it up several times a day. Youngest dd has had the same thing with a straw lid but is requesting and getting a bigger one for her birthday this month. She plays soccer and runs track and can't fill it up in the middle of practice. I debated between 32 oz and 40 oz and ended up getting the 40 oz with a straw lid. We'll see what she says in a couple of weeks.
jen3kids
The 40 oz is pretty big. It doesn't fit into cup holders in my car, or in the side pocket on my backpack. I use a carabiner clip to attach it to my backpack. That said, it is great for practice because it holds so much. I will often take 2 water bottles - my uninsulated Gatorade one to drink from during practice, and my 40 oz HydroFlask to refill it.
Cinder
Around here, every teen seems to have a Hydroflask. They are tough and really keep things cold. My family uses Hydroflask because everyone in Hawaii uses them so my mom sent one for each of us for Christmas one year. They really do keep things cold, so much so that ds1 says he had to cut back on the number of ice cubes in his because they don't melt and then he doesn't get quite as much water.
prairiewindmomma
I bought 6 Contigos 2 years ago. 3 have broken. I am slowly switching us all over.
Liz CA
The insulated Kleen Kanteens are our absolute favorite and we've had many types. You can get pull top drinking covers for them. These Kleen Kanteens holds stuff warm / cold for hours - make surer you get the insulated kind. So do the Yetis, but they are more travel cup than actual bottle. Alessandra
Hydroflasks certainly feature in REI displays, very cool. We prefer Kleen Kanteens because they are half the weight of hydroflasks. A lot of hikers use Smart Water bottles from the supermarket and refill them. It all depends on how important weight is to you. We also have a large supply of Nalgene bottles, as they are less expensive, good to know if you or your kid loses things. A decision is what kind of top to get -- some people like twist off caps, others prefer sippy caps. As for size, I like to carry two smaller bottles rather than one larger one. That way, I can add a packet of energy (no caffeine) drink mix to one bottle and keep the other for plain water. Pippen
My daughter was given a Cork Circle water bottle and she loves it.
Alessandra
I use the refillable smartwater bottles on hikes. One of the insulated bottles sold at REI is super light. I have s friend who likes to sip coffee all morning on hikes and this is his fave. He is a product tester for REI. I'll have to look for the super light bottles, now that winter hiking season has begun.
Bambam
I have a Hydroflask and love it, but it doesn't fit in the car's cup holder. It is just a tad too big. So I bought a Contigo Autoseal - love it too and it fits in the car's cup holder. It isn't quite as big - which is a trade-off - it fits in the cup holder and it is easier for me to grab, but it is like 6 ounces smaller - which is bad. I like the top on the Contigo Autoseal much better than the flip top on the Hydroflask (additional purchase). The Hydroflask lid is easier to clean, but the Contigo is easier to drink from if I'm driving.
