goldberry
Has anyone ever done this and is it crazy expensive?
underthebridge
Depends on where you are geographically. In my area (urban city center), rentals are exorbitant - we paid $125 for a kids’ table and chairs for 10 for one day’s use. The next year, we just bought a folding table and chairs and put them in storage. How many table and chairs do you need? ETA - I just saw you also asked about tents. Yes, they can get pricey. In addition to the tent, you have to think about renting side walls, flooring depending on if you think there’s a chance it could be rainy/muddy or if the ground is uneven/unsafe, lighting if at night, heating/cooling if necessary, bathroom facilities, etc. In my area, it would run around $1-2k for a tent w flooring and lights for 60-80 people. Vernal
I'm sure prices depend on location, but for my area: Chairs range from 95 cents each to $5-6, with the cheapest of course the most basic plastic chair Tables are $12 for an 8 foot round and $8 for 8 foot rectangular Tents really vary in prices depending on size, number of peaks, etc. A 20x40 with no side walls and one peak are $295. Sidewalls are $1 per foot. Flooring is expensive to rent imo, but I don't remember any prices right now. That's the biggest size the rental company we use will let renters put up themselves. Any bigger and they send a couple of guys to put them up. The prices jump to around $1200 and from there on up. The rental co also charges $60 for delivery and it is worth every penny. You do not want to wrangle 100+ chairs from the rental place and back. But putting up a tent isn't too difficult, but does take more than one person. Carrie12345
I'd say it depends on scale. It isn't unusual to see the local Facebook pages reselling party set ups. It seems to me that it's much cheaper to purchase and resell than to rent. But there's no way I'd take on the risk and work for a HUGE party. Time and convenience are worth something. Amazon has a 20x40 party tent for around $1,000, with the shipping, side walls included. My local rental place rents them for almost $500/pop with side walls, though they do include set up at that size. Tables are $8.50/ea, chairs run $1.50-2.50/ea. mom@shiloh
Yes, they are pricey. We had to rent a large tent with tables and chairs for an outdoor wedding several years ago. It was well over $1000. Our church rented just a smallish tent for an event and it was $600. After that, my dh found a 30 x 60 tent on craigslist for $150 and we bought it. We'll have numerous graduation parties that we can use it for, plus we can share it with our church and friends.
