Do I need the AAS level 4 student packet?

I've done the other three levels and always bought the student packet. However, we use an iPad app instead of tiles, and I tend to not use the rest of the materials much. Basically I use the lesson instructions and then treat the rest like a spelling list and practice, which works fine for us. Is there anything in level 4 that is *necessary* to the program or adds another element not previously there?

We implemented the program in a similar fashion to you all the way through AAS 5 and although I had the student packets, we didn't make much use of them.  The word banks were nice to use on occasion but not necessary.  Some of the other things I see listed as part of the student packet I don't even recognize so I'm guessing we didn't use them!  So I would say that if you are happy with how things have been going so far, you probably can use only the teacher's manual without a problem.

I know that some levels add more tiles. I own levels 14 and have kids in levels 1-3. I know that some of our tiles did not come with the original student kit.... don't remember if it was level 3 or 4. My kids DO use the tiles. But we don't use the cards... I hate getting the student packs if it is mostly just the cards, but we need the tiles.

I use everything, but my child is not a natural speller, and he needs all the help he can get. This program has helped him tremendously. It seems like the program is not a good fit for you if you just use it for spelling lists?

I use the teaching part too. We just use different methods (apps) for phonogram review rather than cards, an app for the tiles, and don't review the words as much as suggested so we don't need the other cards. I've occasionally used the word banks, but not much. The lessons, word lists, and dictation seem to be pretty much sufficient for us. The lessons and tiles are the magic of the program to me.

Do the tiles from aar 1-4 include all of those?
