In search of a lightweight bag for a woman. Ideas?

Hello,

I've been carrying a Jansport black computer bag for perhaps ten years now and would like to find something that is a little brighter and a little smaller. My current bag is about 13x14x6 inches, and I'd like to find a bag about 20% smaller.

Ideally it could carry a folding umbrella (about a foot long), my full sized wallet, and three or so hardback books.  I'd also like for it to be lightweight.

I found two Baggallini bags that have potential but still don't seem quite right:

Baggallini Hobo Lightweight Tote

Dimensions appear to be 10 x 6 x 16 inches.

Baggallini Helsinki Silver

Dimensions appear to be 14x11x4 inches.  The link shows a black bag, but it's available in several colors.

Your suggestions are much appreciated!

Regards,

Kareni

I have the hobo lightweight tote in another color.  For years I carried nothing, just carried a wallet or grabbed a backpack if I needed something.  But, using a cane really requires a crossbody. I found the Baggellini at a consignment shop and it has been perfect. I appreciate the length without a lot of depth.  It is exceptionally lightweight.  I like that the arm strap is fully adjustable.   I think either of them could work for you.  For me - I like the longer length of 16" because I toss in a portfolio planner and it sticks out but mostly fits well for toting around medical stuff.  I will tell you, wallet and three hardback books would pretty much fill it so I am not sure about the dimensions of the Helsinki - I suspect it might be too small for that or a snug fit.

This is the bag I use, and I love it:

It's definitely not "cute" but it's functional.

I hadn't considered a sling bag.  Hmm, I like the fact that it converts to a backpack, but I think I'm too used to having a bag go over my shoulder to make the change! You may call me a creature of habit.

Thanks for the link, Zebra.

I didn't know the name of that brand though I did see a bag once with a little monkey dangling from it.  Thanks for the link, hornblower.  I think this bag is a strong contender!

I was going to suggest the hobo. I love that bag. My dh calls it the Tardis bag. It doesn't appear huge, but it will hold all you listed. And it's lightweight.

I have the hobo lightweight tote in another color.

Thank you both for your recommendations!  I think this bag might work despite my initial misgivings.

Kareni
