Hot gifts this year or "I messed up big time"

DGD and I were at Walmart the other day and she asked for this toy called LOL Surprise. They are these little dolls that come in a colored sphere and you cannot tell what is inside. I told her wait and see what Santa br ings (as all good Memes do right before the holidays) thinking I would run back on payday and get a couple for her stocking. DD took DGD to see Santa and what do you think she asked for? LOL Surprises. 7 of them. That's it. Nothing else. She even told him she had asked me and I said to wait and see.

Well, it's payday and Walmart is sold out. The worker isn't sure if there will be any new shipments before Christmas. I also ran to Target and they had one. Thank goodness for that one. :hurray:

The Target worker said they had a new box come in on Thursday and that the one I had found was the last one in that shipment. She told me these LOL dolls are one of the hot toys of the season and I should check back next Thursday at opening to see if any new ones come in.

I think we might be good with the one I found.

I had never heard of this so I looked it up on Amazon.   They are only available from third-party sellers and the prices start at about $135!  I assume that is highly inflated?

Amazon does have LOL Surprise Pets and Little Sisters for ~$20ish.   Not that that's helpful.  I just haven't been up on the hot toys lately.

Hope it works out for you!

Yeah. I had a young cousin that wanted a LOL surprise doll. I'd never heard of them (and in researching, saw that there was a counterfeit issue with online purchases) so I got her a Hatchimal instead. (A small one.)

Then I went to Walmart, and they had some ($10). I was tempted to pick one up but I'd already bought enough for the young cousin, so I didn't. The ones I saw weren't in the toy section, but at the front of the store where they had 5-6 aisles of Christmas toys/gingerbread kits/etc. Sort of on the end of an aisle, in a large cardboard box that dispensed them 1 at a time, like a gum ball machine.

The cardboard box display is the one DGD and I saw. Our the head of the toy dept said she had dismantled it yesterday because the dolls were sold out.

I googled online and it does appear that there is quite a but of price inflating going on.

I was just at Target today for LOL dolls and there were a bunch of cardboard displays that were empty. Luckily my older daughter found some glitter ones on a different shelf.  I think they might have just come in, so I would keep checking back if you want to get more.  I didn't really realize it was a "thing" as one of my daughters had exchanged a duplicate birthday present a month or so ago for an LOL doll and there were plenty back then.

That happened to me with "fingerlings" on my daughter's October birthday.  I told her they were sold out so I would try to get her one for Christmas.  Thankfully I did manage to get each kid 1 for Christmas.  I probably paid more than market because I didn't want to run the risk of disappointing.

I happened to grab 1 fingerling on Amazon yesterday for $15! Grandma and Grandpa are giving it to her and she'll be thrilled.

My Oldest son was of Elmo age when the Tickle Me Elmo madness came along. Just before his birthday in October I showed him one and it terrified him. He screamed and freaked out. Man, did I wish I had bought one when everyone was going crazy and spending fortunes on them come Christmas LOL
