Tranquility7
DS11 is taking it in January and we have done no prep at all. In fact, I know very little about it. Is it just like the SAT? Will SAT prep materials work for it? Or is there something better to use? I'd love an recommendations. Thanks!
gstharr
My 7th grader did PSAT 8/9 for CTY last year. Our prep was Barrons and Princeton, college board, and Global Ivy. 8/9 is pre-algebra and algebra 1, and some basic geometry (area, volume, similarity). Algebra 1 is probably the most important area for math. For verbal, we prepped with regular SAT reading passages.. He qualified for CTY Intensive Studies--math and verbal.
wapiti
My two cents: don't bother with prep. I'm a big fan of prep before official tests, like the SAT and the junior year PSAT, but the 8/9? Nah. Dmmetler
What I had DD do when she took the EXPLORE and there were no full practice tests available is have her do a practice ACT with the EXPLORE timing, warning her that it was harder than what she was going to be taking. Since she’d never done a standardized test with a bubble sheet before, I wanted her to have that experience at least once before it was “real†
Roadrunner
I would just familiarize with a test, just so they know what the format is like and what sorts of questions are being asked. So basically work through a test or two at your pace. I wouldn’t bother with anything beyond that. And make sure your kid knows his zip code. 😂
