Math U See Geometry - online live coop class

Recommended Posts

I am looking at my Geometry options for next year.  I'm seeking a gentle Geometry course that has an audio visual component and would be good for non-mathy visual learner kids.  One has significant auditory processing issues, so a presenter that speaks slowly and clearly is essential.  I had to eliminate Mr. D. Math and Unlock Math since the speakers speak way too fast for my kids.  Mr. Demme from Math U See has a nice slow pace of speaking, so Math-U-See Geometry is my top choice so far.  I would love any feedback on MUS Geometry and would specifically love to know if anyone has chosen the MUS online coop classes for high school and any feedback. (especially Geometry).

Thank you so much!

I wish I could, we're not there yet. I can speak to generals, though.

My son has used Tabletclass' Pre-Alg and Alg. 1 (in the midst now) and I have no reason to change now, as my son specifically requests it, does it independently, and normally understands the material and how it's presented the first time. If he doesn't, he just watches it over again and that does it. If he needs further help, he can call or email Mr. Zimmerman-he's fast to respond.

I can't speak to Geometry specifically, but my son took MUS prior to Tabletclass. What he was struggling in was how Demme's instruction made things more complicated than necessary. My son doesn't care about all these alternatives and whys and wherefores about math; just show him how to do it.period. And that straight-forward style is what helped my son; MUS confused him. It confused me, too. Tabletclass' teachings remind of how it was done when I was in school-when concepts were taught simply without all the extra and extraneous steps, IMO.

I think you can get a trial or some type review of the material.

Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in.  :toetap05:

There's a free trial available, plus, you can see him on YouTube. Just search 'Tabletclass' and his YouTube should come up as an option.

Also, Mr. Zimmerman is very personable and will gladly talk to you by phone or email to answer your questions.

The only negative is that I don't think there are enough practice problems with each lesson. However, there's many on the review worksheet.

I helped my son with this by subscribing to CTC.

You're welcome. Hopefully someone with MUS Geometry will chime in, too.

Of course, you don't have to use CTC; any review type set-up would work. Whatever you can find to get more practice problems is sufficient.

Mr Zimmerman might have some advice for something that is free?

I can't compare with Tabletclass, but I love MUS geometry for non-mathy kids. It is light on proofs, but covers all the geometry found in ACT/SAT testing. It was a very painless way to get through geometry here. I don't think it is a great idea if your child is likely to go on to Calc and needs a more thorough exposure to proofs, but as long as that isn't the case, it was perfect to check the box.

Have to reply :)

When I first met Alesia (my wife, the teacher in UnLock Math) I told her she was going to have to slow down her speaking because my ears didn't hear that fast. I was from rural Georgia and she was from Canada and our speaking styles were very different :)

Don't have any recommendations but would appreciate learning what works for your child so I can make recommendations for those that contact us. We are planning on close-captioning our videos for this very reason.
