KarenNC
I'm getting my husband a new small Swiss Army pocket knife (the classic one that will work on a keychain, not the ones with tons of extras) as a stocking stuffer and am thinking of getting my daughter one as well. Has anyone heard of something like this being a problem on a college campus?
gstharr
You should probably check with your campus police. A violation of the weapon policy will most likely have severe consequences.
Bootsie
The definition of a weapon is going to vary from campus to campus; I have known some that have a certain length of blade allowed. Even firearms are allowed on some campuses.
G5052
Yes, in my state there's actually a law regarding the length of the blade. I know because I went to a faculty seminar on legal issues for professors, and it came up. No firearms, although I know several professors with concealed carry permits who ignore that. A Swiss army knife should be well within reason, but it's worth a call to campus security. Edited November 27, 2017 by G5052
Lanny
I agree that checking with the Campus Security people or the Campus Police would be a good idea. I have a Knife (made by Smith & Wesson) that a friend in the Colombian Army gave me. It certainly could be used as a weapon.
Nan in Mass
And then there are the schools where the students are required to carry knives and bringing one's hunting rifle to school is normal and if one wins the moose lottery one is excused from class...

Hilltopmom
Which schools are those? Paul Smiths in the Adirondacks, at least when dh went there. Classes were cancelled for the first day of hunting season so students and professors could go out hunting. Everyone had a knife for camping. And Canoeing tests were part of new student orientation.
