Guinevere
https://www.cdc.gov/flu/consumer/symptoms.htm How does one tell the difference? None of us have been vaccinated. We are 8 days past getting sick, and we are all still lying around. We each had about 4 days of fever, everyone has also had stomach distress, and we are still practically coughing our lungs out many times a day. We had every symptom on the list, and we've been pretty sick, but I thought we'd be even sicker with the flu? Maybe not? Educate me.
Pen
If you want to know if it is truly "influenza," get tested for that. What you describe sounds similar to something "going around" where we are for both the vaccinated and unvaccinated--I've assume it is probably a virus, but not technically influenza. Someone else I know though it might not be viral, but perhaps something related to pollution, perhaps coming across from Asia, because some people are having asthma like symptoms with it. Or bad air due to an inversion layer.
Starr
It's been said if there is a $100.00 bill outside your window, with the flu you won't care and leave it there. I hope you are all feeling better soon!
sbgrace
I've never known a "thought we would be sicker" flu, but I'm sure such a thing exists! We have had it, lab confirmed, a few times over the years. What, in my experience, has made me go for testing/makes flu different is that it hits full force suddenly. Generally this has been normal day, everything's fine and then--boom--high fever, body aches, headaches, wiped out entirely--a real crawl in bed and wait for death feeling. The cough, nasal, etc. comes later. Other viruses tend to have the cough/nasal or something similar initially, and build up more. But I'm sure it varies. I really think the only way to determine influenza vs. another virus is get tested. I don't see the worth in that for your situation of course. I hope you all turn a corner and feel better very soon. Eight days is a long time to feel sick, flu or whatever. Edited November 22, 2017 by sbgrace
Ali in OR
The vaccine covers only 4 different flu viruses. There are many, many viruses that cause "influenza-like illness". You have one of them. I don't think it matters much if it is one of the 4 covered by the vaccine. Treat it the same. Rest, get your fluids, rest some more, stay away from other people. Hope you're all on the mend soon.
