Am I crazy or is this dumb? Shopping rant.

I wear one kind of bra.  I know the model number and I watch for it to go on sale.  It is currently on Kohl's website on sale for $14.  There is another online coupon that take is to $12.  I had an hour to kill this morning so I ran to Kohls to get bras.  They are on sale for $29 in the store.  They will not price match the $14 online sale price.  I talked to 2 managers.  Their advice-since they are in stock, I can order them online for free and pick up in the store.

Huh??

I'm standing there with 4 bras that I want to purchase right now.  The manager tells me to put them back, buy them online (where I will pay $12 each), they will pull them off the shelf and I can pick them up tomorrow.

Huh??

This is dumb, right??  I get not advertising "we match our online prices" but there should be exceptions.

Here is why it is dumb.  I also need jeans.  Since they would not match the online price, I wasn't in the mood to buy jeans anymore.

THIS IS WHY RETAIL STORES ARE CLOSING, MR. MANAGER!!!

Yes, that is stupid.  I hope it is a mistake on the part of the store managers and not an actual business policy.  Unless they are actually hoping that their stores go out of business.

Though, I believe I have seen other "online only" sales.  Maybe they do that for inventory control reasons?

I've had that happen at Kohl's, and Walmart (with printer ink), and Target (with a Lego set). Each time the buy online / pick up in store was significantly different from picking it up from the shelf and they couldn't price match. It is *very* frustrating. And it always takes Wal-Mart so long at their online order pick up counter.

I don't usually do online order pickup because delivery is so much easier. However, there was an item they wouldn't ship to me, but they would ship to store. When I picked it up, the store associate (teen boy) acted like I was ruining his day by needing to pick something up. He sure took his time, too.

I filled out an online survey about my experience and got a call from the manager the next day. (Ahh! If I would have known it wouldn't be anonymous, I wouldn't have filled it out, but too late!) He wanted more details because they are trying hard to make pickup better. They have a new thing here where you tell them you are headed there and they grab everything and have it at the counter when you get there. Haven't tried it, but the manager says that they are doing better with that service than with traditional pickup.

Walmart would let my husband order online while at the store and pick the items up an hour later. The staff literally tell my husband to take a walk to a cafe, get a bite and come back. A manager at one of the Walmart stores was willing to override so we bought our item at online prices. We have Walmart stores near to each other.

Target has raised their store prices recently. We had to check online prices the last few weeks and pay at customer service to get the price match. For example the 3â€x5†index cards are 79 cents in store but 49 cents online. I bought 12 sets for my kids and the Target staff price match to 49 cents each.

We rarely shop at Kohls so no idea. Nordstrom Rack would price match their online prices. Barnes & Noble would not.

A similar thing happened to me once at JCPenney's. I wanted to purchase a jacket that was cheaper online (I can't remember by how much, but maybe $10-$15), and they would not price match in the store. The manager told me that the online store is basically viewed as a different store, so that's why they can't price match. The B&M store says JCP and the online store says JCP, so I don't understand the logic. It's so stupid!  :cursing:

They are different entities. OFten the online stores are contracted out to a completely different company. Its why you often can't take online stuff back to the stores and vice versa.

I forgot their online sales started today so I went and got my shopping done thanks to your reminder.  But yes it is pretty dumb to do it that way.  But even Amazon the supposed king of customer service does dumb stuff too.  I bought DH a pair of shoes the price dropped $20 a day after they got here.  I asked them if they could do a price adjustment since I was still well within my return window.  No they won't do that but they recommended just ordering another pair and returning it (and it's free shipping both ways).  So rather than just crediting me $20, they have to pay the shipping for a second pair of shoes to me, pay for the shipping to return the first pair of shoes to them and I still have my $20 back.  In no way possible is that economically advantageous to them.

Maybe on paper but my bff works at our Kohl’s, walking around, pulling orders. I told her where i left the bras so she can get them in the morning.

I actually told a retail store clerk that their online store was competing against them when they couldn’t match the price online. That’s a business undermining itself.

The more Iï¸ think about it, the more Iï¸ think this is correct. The big bosses are looking at the very bottom line and driving customers to shop on the website is, long term, cheaper than running actual stores.

It’s stupid, but I’m not surprised that happened. Usually companies see their brick and mortar shops and online shops as two separate entities.

Yes. It’s a common moronic practice that I suspect causes losses for both sides of the businesses.

Because I usually end up not buying from either when they pull that. I’ve left my entire cart at check out over it. If I have to go home and order online and pick up the next day anyways, I might as well just leave all my purchases and go buy elsewhere.

That is beyond dumb. And surprising, because usually Kohl's is really customer-friendly. ARGH!

I have never found Kohl’s to be customer friendly but that could because after the first terrible visit, I have rarely gone back.

I’m glad your experiences have been better than mine.

Well, it's Kohls. so...

Yeah that's crazy, but nothing Kohl's does surprises me. The worst part is that I like some of the things they carry. I just hate how they run the business.

I hate Kohls.  I am so irritated that everything is always on sale and the way to save money is some 10,000 step process that I can't make heads or tails of.

I actually bought a couple of things from them last weekend, but geesh I haven't been in a Kohls for years prior.  Unfortunately, we simply don't have a lot of options around here.  I really wanted to try stuff on (and not just randomly guess at my size and order on-line).

Am I the only one reading this thread and wondering about these great bras that are at a great price?

OP, I'm always looking for THE bra. Do share!

Nothing fancy, it is just the one that fits me right. Maidenform Comfort Devotion. Stupid name, decent bra.

Our Kohl's pick up is so fast I probably would have ordered and then stood there and watched them pull the order and then I'd get a text saying it is ready for pick up.

I want to hate Kohl's because of all the pricing and coupon games. But I just can't. I play the games and get great deals. I have done very well with all the deals they have been running. It is silly but if I take advantage of all the promotions I just can't beat the prices on things we use.

Ridiculous!

I experienced something similar in Staples. Laser printer ink wax about $65. Amazon had it for about $45 -- and so did Staples online. Manager said they would price match.

Great, now I am expected to go round the store checking every price. No thanks!

My other pet peeve is when common things are out of stock. Glue-top yellow pads missing in action -- several times -- at Staples, but available online. Do these people not realize that if they get you into their store, you may buy more than what you came for? But I no longer want to run over there on the long-shot chance that they may possibly have the basic supplies I want.
