Traveling with dh's on business trips????

Ok, I have a chance to go to Orlando for a few days in January with dh while he's on a business trip. We'll be staying at B Resort & Spa on Disney properties. Any advice on being an extra on a trip. He'll obviously be busy during the day. I'll be by myself & can take a shuttle to Disney Springs. (Really any Disney park, but not going there by myself. I could see if in-laws wanted to come see me/do something for a day. They'll be about 1 hr 45 min away. Not sure about bugging them?

I could do a few spa things, but have a small budget. Any tips for trips similar to this?

I travel with DH on business with some regularity. Love it -- so relaxing.

I am a Disney nut so I'd be in the parks solo in a breath (but probably wouldn't stay solo long as I have friends in the area who would appear as soon as they knew I was there LOL -- one Instagram post and I'd be getting texts -- I did some solo time at Disneyland in September and it was AWESOME)

If you don't want to do parks -- try resorts ;) I'd go spend a morning at Animal Kingdom Lodge -- great food, animals to watch, plenty to wander about and see. There's a ton of details to explore at most of the resorts and anyone is welcome to visit, especially if you eat at one of the resort restaurants! Same for Wilderness Lodge/Ft Wilderness -- lots to see and do without going into a park. Do a monorail hotels tour and visit the Grand Floridian, Polynesian and Contemporary.

I have not travelled with DH on business, but he has travelled with me when I go for work, as has DD16.

I recommend sleeping late, room service breakfast, walk somewhere for lunch. Rest by the pool. Nap. If you are solo for dinner, do room service and a movie.

I used to travel with my husband. Wherever we went, I'd find things to do. I'm not a Disney person but it seems like there is loads if stuff to do in Orlando. Sometimes I'd just hang out at the hotel. I'd never pass up a chance to stay in a nice place and have the day to myself.

As for your in-laws, only you can decide that. :-)

I've been on a number of trips with dh. I love the solitude! I use my time while he's in meetings to read, swim, lounge by the pool, or go sight seeing. It's fun just to go out and check out whatever city I'm in without having to worry about someone else's agenda. I can get lost in used book stores, try on clothes at my favourite stores, or just walk and walk and see what's out there. There's no way I'd call in-laws if I had a few days to myself.

I am usually invited to evening events on trips, so I spend all day doing my own thing and then I get to dress up and go out. It's a win-win.

Enjoy yourself! You have no responsibilities, no one else's feelings to worry about, you can do whatever you want or you can decide not to do anything at all!

DD and I actually went to Orlando with DH on a business trip and didn't go to any of the parks.   We are easily amused though.

Disney Springs is pretty fun if you are happy poking around different stores.

I'll second the idea to be ready to be on your own at night too.  DH ended up having a lot of things at night he had to go to.   Also, I would not call your in-laws unless you are really excited to see them and have a wonderful relationship.   I would take the opportunity to just have a little of fun by myself, if I were you.

I've gone with kids and on my own. With kids, I just sight see kids things or do the pool without him, and if possible plan one day to stay longer and do something as a family.   ON my own I haven't gone anywhere cool like Disney, but I do as others have said. For no or very little money I can swim, workout in the gym, hang out in a nice room, take a walk, etc.

When I travel with my husband I don’t expect to see him much. He usually has a dinner at night and “real†work to catch up on in the hotel. So, I take a book, maybe go for a hike, and plan on checking out the area on my own. If he gets a quiet night we will go out to eat.

My kids and I have discovered some great museums, parks, and libraries in other towns. We will often swim at the hotel. Sometimes transportation can be tricky if he needs the car, especially if you aren’t use to public transportation or the city isn’t set up for it. I’ve never Ubered with the kids but I did master the subway in DC.

The Disney resorts are all fun to look at IMO so I would probably spend my days walking around resorts and stopping for the occasional snack or coffee. I would probably throw my Kindle in my bag so I could sit and read a bit along the way. :) With Disney transportation you can easily visit the shops at the Contemporary then take a boat or the monorail over to the Grand Floridian and Polynesian area. Don't forget to get a Dole Whip at the Polynesian because it's my favorite. That could take up a whole day for me! The Wilderness Lodge, Animal Kingdom Lodge, and Port Orleans would be other entertaining destinations on my own.

We will be flying, so I won't have access to a car.

Oddly enough, I have managed public transportation when traveling better than I have at home.  Maybe because I'm forced to use it when out of town without a car?   Of course I have no idea what public transportation is like in Orlando.  But it sounds as if people familiar with the area have given you lots of ideas.  I hope you have a great time!

No car makes it trickier.  I was going to recommend Orlando things that aren't Disney, but you would need transportation.

Personally I would have no problem doing the parks on my own.  In fact, when we lived in CA I would go to DL alone all the time.

I live less than 10 miles from WDW. Uber works great around here if you want to get off property. International Drive has a lot of fun things to do! Otherwise, in January, I would do a monorail tour of the resorts and shop at Disney Springs. I love to go to the parks by myself, and Epcot is a great park for solo touring. Pools may be hit or miss in January. This morning it was 48 degrees in the WDW area. Enjoy your stay!

You won't need a car bc Disney has transportation. We did take a cast member suggestion for a down day and visited the Magic Kingdom resorts (walk from Grand Floridian to Polynesian), then took the boat from the Contemporary to the Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness.  Bus to AK and Pop Century/Art of Animation, winding up in Disney Springs. If you want to go elsewhere, Lynx (city bus) is available

The busses don't go everywhere.  I just put in 2 locations and it says it isn't available.

OP, how many days are you there?
