PinkTulip
Warning: do not read if you are squeamish about eyes! So last night, when I was taking out my soft contacts before bed, my right contact ripped in half, with half still in my eye. I could not get it out no matter how many times I tried. I thought if I could get one of those little mini eye plunger things, I could probably get it out. Well, after going to 3 different drugstores at 11 pm with no luck, I bought some eye wash and tried it at home, but to no avail. The contact didn't per se hurt, just felt uncomfortable, so I decided to go to bed and try again this morning. Bad idea! I woke to a very red, swollen, and painful eye. I called around to several optometrists (surprisingly few eye care professionals are open on Saturdays!). Fortunately one took pity on me and was able to squeeze me in, but not until 10 am. It took him TWENTY-FIVE minutes of look up, look left, etc to get the dang thing out. He put stain in my eye several times to be able to see it, had to flip my eyelid up several times, and dug around with special eye tweezers before he finally got it. He said it was the most difficult foreign object he had to remove in his entire career. Fortunately, he checked my eye after he pulled it out and nothing is scratched or damaged, but he said it's going to be tender and sensitive for several days. Seriously, I am a little bit traumatized. My eye is still quite red and hurts - I think wearing glasses for the next month is going to be wonderful! Tap
Ouch! That sounds really painful. Glad you got it out. Funny how we take so much for granted...like that contacts should pop in and out at our will. LOL
PinkTulip
Imagine having to wait till Monday  It would have been horrible! I was thinking about it because I don't think they have those eye checking equipment things at the Urgent care place - the ones where you rest your chin on the thing and your forehead on the bar thing. (Surely there is a name for it, but you know those things?!) So where do you go for an eye issue? It didn't feel like an emergency room issue, although it could have been if I had to wait until Monday!

Jen500
Oh, wow, I'm glad your eye is ok and it's out now. I've had a similar thing when my contact lens folds over (I think) and just goes up into my eye somewhere where I can't see it or get it out. It's only happened twice but it's so uncomfortable and not being able to find it is scary. Have to ask-what brand were you wearing that they tore in half?!? Just another reason I don't think people should wear contacts for 'fun'.
lynn
My worst nightmare. Hope you have quick healing. I have had my contact fold in half and go under the lid thankfully it came down after a few hours.

alisoncooks
This thread reminded me of the lady with the 27 contact lenses stuck in one eye. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2017/07/17/health/contact-lens-uk-trnd/index.html
PinkTulip
Have to ask-what brand were you wearing that they tore in half?!? '. They are Biofinity by Cooper Vision from Costco. I seem to remember that Costco had some disagreement with one of the major contact suppliers so were going with a different supplier. I have worn Acuvue Oasys for years but these are new as of a few months ago. I'm thinking it's time to go back to Acuvue.
