madteaparty
There's no "italki" or "verbalplanet" for math tutors, eh? We don't need help with a particular area or test, I just want someone live to teach my kid algebra 2. I know of all the available online classes and programs, I'm pretty sure. Feel free to PM me if not ok posting. Thank you
crazyforlatin
There is something like that for math, Latin, voice, voice acting, lol, because I looked around but never actually went through except for voice and voice acting. These two, takelessons.com and wyzant.com, are not going to be $10 per hour like what you may find on italki, but the fees seem reasonable for what I looked into, though $60 per hour for Latin better get us a 5 on the AP exam. I haven't done hardcore tutoring, but for voice acting, the fees were very low at takelessons.com, and the portal that they use is easy to book lessons, pay, and reschedule.
deerforest
I'm pretty sure a local friend of ours (who is a local math tutor very much beloved and respected in our area) offers Skype tutoring now. He's formed a relationship with our local AoPS brick and mortar school, but he's capable of tutoring at all levels. http://chapelhillmathtutor.com

We are in the south (I live in his town), and they are definitely comparable for his level of expertise. I honestly pay more for my daughter’s private athletic coaching so they don’t seem high to me! It’s all relative for sure!

It’s all relative for sure! sorry I meant more deep south such as AL, MS, FL, LA Yes NC is a higher cost location and these are probably the going rates. My fellow Yankees have invaded :glare: But $40 per hour is on the high end in AZ for a math tutor. Previously I saw a tutor recommended here for $20 / hour or so (I think it was from TX). Math tutors should be able to Skype from many locations so hopefully that would help drive costs to the student down.
Targhee
A friend of mine tutored math on Wyzant. She just had baby #4 and is not currently tutoring but I imagine there are many other math tutors. ETA she did both Wyzant online tutoring and gave to face tutoring on her own Edited November 21, 2017 by Targhee
crazyforlatin
This place has lower fees, https://preply.com/en/skype/math-tutors, but I haven't tried them yet.
lmrich
How many days a week do you want? Do you have a curriculum in mind? My dd has tutored for Derek Owens classes for the past two years. She has tutored on Skype as well. She is a college student so her rates are $20 an hour.
4KookieKids
But $40 per hour is on the high end in AZ for a math tutor. Yes, we live in an area with COL index 91 (national norm is 100, so we're on the low side of average) and here you can hire an excellent tutor for with a PhD, 10 years teaching experience, and 20 years tutoring experience for $35/hr or under.
