Online work at home job for a teenager

I have a 17 year old who is an admitted homebody.  He needs a job but doesn't want to be away from home anymore than he is for school (attends public).

Ten hours a week of something he could do on the computer would be perfect for him.  He will be extremely busy once track season starts so it doesn't need to be something long term.  A few months to give him something to do besides sit on his phone.

Anything like this exist for kids?

Maybe tutoring??

  I've had a hard enough time trying to get him to do his own school work for the last three and half years.

Thanks.  I actually remembered this post in the middle of the night when I got up to go pee. You saved me from trying to find it.

Many places won't hire a 17yo. Good luck--maybe something like offering pet sitting in your home? Could you help walk a dog in the middle of the day (and charge your son from his profits...lol)? Cats are easier and harder--easier to care for/leave during the day, harder to acclimate to a new place.

At this time of year: hanging outdoor lighting for people. This is quite popular among the 16-17-year-old boys around here, as they are able to climb ladders & use basic tools. Once people hit around 40-50, they are often willing to pay for teens to do this for them. Especially if they have a two-story house. I see teens partner up for the two stories.

DD17 is now at college, but, she worked for a computer company as a broadcaster. Basically, this means she played video games online for money.

How did she find that job? I figure jobs like that are really hard to come by. My ds is looking for online work and he's a gamer. This would be perfect for him.

Does he have good writing skills?  I sometimes work as a writer on Textbroker.com.  You can take short assignments whenever you happen to have a little free time.

this might be something I do myself.  Have you worked for them for a while?  What are the assignments typically like?

I think all the people DD knows doing this started out on sites like Twitch or Mixer. The computer company then finds them. She did not apply for the job.

I've worked for them for about three years, but very sporadically.  You take a test to determine what level of writing you're at.  You need to be at a certain level to be accepted, and then even after that, you're rated at a certain level and then paid accordingly.  (And some assignments are only offered to higher-rated authors.)  The pay isn't great, but it's something.  You can pick short or longer assignments, and concentrate on areas of interest.  I generally concentrate on travel.  As an example, I was asked to write X number of words for an article (it probably resulted in half/page) on a city in the Middle East that was trying to show itself off as a great area for tourists.  It was for some magazine.  So, I researched it online, and wrote the article.  (It actually made me want to visit the city myself!)  They sometimes ask you to fix or add a few things, and then give you a little time to do it.

Lately I've been asked to write one-paragraph restaurant reviews.  They are generally of restaurants and in cities that I've never even been to.  So, it takes some research to find out about the restaurant, learn what they specialize in, what other people think about it, etc.  I'm sure I put in more time than it's worth because I want to do a thorough job.  Maybe if I did a particular style often enough I'd become faster.

You can always decline an assignment after learning what it is, and it doesn't count against you.
