LLMom
i am looking for options for my 12 year old dyslexic daughter for listening to text being read. She can read close to grade level, but her comprehension when she reads to herself is lower. When she listens to me read her comprehension is very good. However, I do not have time to read everything to her. She listens to most of her historical fiction and literature on Learning Ally and the library, but she has a science and history text that is not on Learning Ally. I work full time so I am finding it hard to read those subjects to her everyday and focus on the biggies like spelling and writing. ( those take a lot of mom time) Any ideas or am I just out of luck? PeterPan
If it's a major publisher, the text may have an e-book version already available. If there's an ebook, then either the software will already be able to do tts (text to speech) or you'll use an app, depending on the format. For instance, BJU now has all their ebook texts in a format that runs through an app that automatically does TTS. You just click and turn it on, boom, easy peasy. If the text is a pdf, you can use VoiceDream. If the text is from a small publisher, write them and see what they can do for you. They may have an audio recording and you don't realize it. You can also try NLS/BARD or ask Learning Ally to record it. Or change texts. But really, they might have an ebook version. If you can get an ebook version, then it's just a matter of figuring out how to engage TTS for the format it's in.
