Jaybee
a couple of kitchen tools I am lacking. I want good quality, but not super expensive top-of-the-line. What are your favorites?
KungFuPanda
I use a stainless steel microplaner for zesting. It works really well and wasn't expensive. I have a couple pepper grinders and they all work. I'm a little fussy about kitchen tools, but these two aren't hard to come by at a low price.

Alessandra
I've had a Peugeot pepper mill for decades, still working as new. I think this was Julia Child suggested in Mastering the Art of French Cooking. http://thesweethome.com/reviews/best-pepper-mill/ I have the microplane that looks like a file. I like the shape because I can grate the lemon on it OR hold the lemon and move the grater back and forth -- my preferred way, because I can see when I am getting too close to white part of rind. Iirc, I spent about $15 on it. I didn't get it from WS, but it looks like this. https://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/microplane-rasp-grater/?pkey=e%7Cmicroplane%7C18%7Cbest%7C0%7C1%7C24%7C%7C1&cm_src=PRODUCTSEARCH Edited October 21, 2017 by Alessandra
El...
I have this pepper mill, and I like it. It's very easy to use, and it has a little cap underneath so it isn't always sprinkling the counter with pepper bits. It's not super sexy for the table, but I use it in the kitchen; we don't usually serve pepper at the table. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B003L0OOQM/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Katy
A few years ago I got disgusted with highly rated kitchen gadgets that break quickly. Now I just order something with great reviews from Williams Sonoma. Haven't been disappointed in them yet.
