Night Elf
So I never heard back from CVS. I figure either they didn't want me and he was too chicken to tell me so or they really did lose my application in the system. Tech support wouldn't delete it for me so I could start over so I'm giving up on them. Now I'm looking at volunteer work. I have a phone interview with the library next Tuesday. The title is Materials Acquisitions & Interlibrary Loan Volunteer. It says assisting with shipping and receiving interlibrary loans, and unpacking cartons and matching contents to packing slips. It starts at 2:00pm and they ask for 1-2 hours a day, 2 days a week. I also sent an application to my local hospital auxiliary volunteers department. They require a 1 year commitment, working at least one 4-hr shift a week and committing to at least 100 hours. They match the volunteer with the type of work that interests them. I seriously doubt they'll have anything in maternity but that's where I'd like to be. I'd love to rock NICU babies. But there are many positions open so I guess they discuss that during the interview. I just mailed the application on Tuesday. I'm hoping they'll email by next week. They said the first thing they'd do was email me to do whatever it is I need to do for a background check. I'm thinking I can do both of these jobs. I'd love to have something to do 3-4 days a week, even if it is only for a couple of hours. I'm stepping way outside of my comfort zone! I'm trying to tell myself that once I get started and learn the job, it will be easy and I won't be nervous anymore. I'm doing more meditation lately though.
Peaceseeker
I think you will enjoy the library position. Libraries are peaceful work environments but still humming with community activities and a great place for meeting people. You may find other things going on there that you are interested in as well, as there are often all kinds of groups and clubs meeting there. You will also be helping out your local homeschoolers who are ordering lots of interlibrary loans 😉 I am sure the hospital will be rewarding as well! I know our library has events but I've never attended one. They have at least two book clubs I think. Maybe I should give one of them a try. Catwoman
I'm sorry to hear the CVS thing didn't work out, but your new options actually sound a lot better to me. Good luck with them!!! :hurray:
Amber in SJ
Good luck with your new endeavours. If you are looking for other volunteer work in your area, you can try justserve.org I have found some fantastic ways to serve my community there even though I can only do little bits & pieces right now. displace
Thank you for volunteering! I'm very pro-volunteering in theory. In reality I cannot focus on more outside activities right now. I hope you like it. :)
Carol in Cal.
My grandfather volunteered in the files department of his local hospital for years, and when he had to have surgery he knew just about everyone who was helping him--they treated him like a king. It was a nice fringe benefit of his volunteer work.
J-rap
That's great! My dd volunteers at a hospital that has the same requirements. They let her list a few things, and then together they eventually picked one. She listed holding NICU babies, assisting nurses, and one other thing that I can't remember. In the end, they didn't really need any more help with the NICU babies, so she is assisting nurses, and then they also trained her to give hand massages. So, she might spend a few minutes massaging a nervous patient's hand, or sometimes even a nervous family member's hand. Once you are in the system, they're more flexible that it at first sounds. She really enjoys it!
