Elizabeth86
A while back I posted about ds having a rash due to bed wetting. I treatec it as a diaper rash and it didn't clear up. I treated it as a yeast rash and it didn't clear up. It started looking worse and changing. It has like a blackhead and white pus and is now on a few other places. I decided to see the Dr today. Their pediatrician is and hour and a half away (I'm thinking of changing this) so I decided on urgent care. You usually get stuck with a late appointment and we had stuff to do today, the ride is hard on the kids and the pediatrician seems annoyed when you bring the whole crew with you and I didn't want to deal with all that. The urgent care dr acted as if my ds was the first patient he ever examined. He was so awkward, I cannot even describe. He asked if we had bedbugs. Um, I doubt this only affects 1 out of 5 people. I am almost positive it is staph as I have seen it before. Dr says it isnt and prescribed benzonyl peroxide the acne medication and the best I can tell this is all it is used for. Just venting because now I am going to have to take a trip to the pediatrician anyway for a second opinion. I am just not sure about acne medication. The bumps open up and ooze and the rx says not to put broken skin, so I don't know. Anyone experience anything like this or have any advice. ktgrok
Yes! One of my children had a bad rash just like that and the doctor said to try yeast medication and diaper rash cream and would actually worked was over-the-counter antibiotic appointment. Bacitracin. Cleared it up almost completely in about 24 to 48 hours. What I did was put the bacitracin on, and then a thick layer of maximum strength Desitin. The Desitin protected the skin And the bacitracin killed the bacteria.
Mama Geek
Ask the pharmacist about the meds on broken skin. Other than that I am sorry that doc didn't work out.
Sandwalker
I would not use that cream. I would do exactly what @ktgrok recommended, bacitracin (and you can mix monistat or whatever you were using for yeast if you want) and cover with desitin or other thick zinc oxide type diaper cream.

Clemsondana
My at-the-time-10 year old developed something that sounds exactly like that, on his face, while we were on vacation. Because it was on his face and seemed to be spreading, we took him to an urgent care. The dr diagnosed some sort of skin infection that goes away on its own after months. But, the rash in the diagnosis didn't ooze (which kid's hadn't done at the time that we took him, but started the next day). This kid has had staph on his face before due to atypical excema, and that required an antibiotic ointment to clear up. This stuff, though, went away on its own. We had planned to go to our ped when we got home, but by the time that the week of vacation was over, the rash, whatever it was, was clearly on the mend. Good luck figuring out what it is - I hope it goes away quickly. I'm guessing ours was some weird combo of chlorine in the pool, salty ocean water, sunscreen, and kiddo's sensitive skin. We are currently fighting poison ivy with some prescription ointment leftover from a previous problem - the dr ordered us a big tube and said to use when we needed it. Pippen
Benzoyl peroxide seems like a poor choice for irritated diaper rash skin. It can burn even on skin that isn't broken.
Elizabeth86
Ok, another update. I have it figured out thanks to the internet not the dr. He had a rash due to wet night diaper. I used vaseline. The internet said using vaseline and oily things can cause boils. The internet pictures are identical. I cannot believe a dr didn't know what a boil was. I am trying a bunch of home remedies. If it doesn't improve soon we will see a dr again.
aaplank
Try calmoseptine. It healed a very bad case of diaper rash for me. ktgrok
have you tried the antibiotic ointment? Boils are by definition an infection.
