High School math...what would you do??

Recommended Posts

When my daughter was a freshman (she is a junior now) it took us 4 different programs before we found an Algebra program that worked. We settled on Math relief....and it was amazing.  So, naturally, the following year, we decided to get math relief geometry....and it wasn't until the year was nearly finished (and I started looking at ACT tests) that I realized that the program wasn't as good as I hoped that it was....so then we were sort of stuck.  I didn't know what to do.  So this year I am having her do math relief Algebra 2 knowing full well, as soon as I found a good geometry program I would have her take that..maybe in her senior year...i wasn't real sure.

I have a son a year younger...who needed Geometry this year...and I just discovered Mr. D math...and that is going REALLY well for him.

So, I am planning on having my daughter take this geometry....but I have 2 questions that I can't seem to decide upon..

1) do I start that right now so that by the time she takes the ACT for the first time she has more math under her belt (so she would be taking 2 math programs at the same time)

and

2) Do I keep her in Math relief Algebra 2 or do i switch her over to Mr D Algebra 2 so that both her maths are the same program?

I want to make this decision very soon.

thanks.

1) I think before I had her repeat geometry with a different program, I would consider whether she needs that or whether she just needs some ACT test prep in that area.  Mr. D offers a bootcamp for ACT/SAT math, right?  (or something like that?)  Would that solve the problem more efficiently?

2)In your situation, I would be tempted to switch to Mr. D Algebra 2.  How is Math Relief Algebra 2 going?  Can she sit in on some of her brother's geometry lessons to see if the format and instruction of Mr. D works well for her?
