Jame
Can anyone recommend a book that explains spelling rules? My son is in 3rd grade and is using Spellwell, but I would like to have a book that explains spelling rules. We used All About Spelling last year, and while I loved how they taught spelling rules, it just didn't work for us. So far I've looked at "The Everything Kids Spelling Book" and "Spelling Works". Any recommendations greatly appreciated!!

ElizabethB
I have spelling lessons and spelling rules online, almost all based on stuff from “The ABCs and All their Tricks,†but actually the study it was based on, the Hanna study. I have a link to the whole Hanna study somewhere, I will look for it and add it. http://www.thephonicspage.org/On%20Spelling/spellinglessonsl.html I found the thread with the link: http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/581464-the-hanna-study-that-the-abcs-and-all-their-tricks-is-based-on-now-online/?hl=%2Bhanna+%2Bstudy&do=findComment&comment=6760243 Edited October 4, 2017 by ElizabethB

Amy M
The Complete Guide to English Spelling Rules I asked this question a while ago, and was recommended to get The ABCs and All Their Tricks and the Logic of English handbook, I forget the name, by Denise Eide. As I read reviews on how the books were structured, and looked at other examples online, I thought this book linked above would be the most helpful option. I bought it very cheap on Kindle (under $5), and it has the rules very clearly delineated and organized. I haven't needed anything more expensive and am happy. MyLife
I use the book Uncovering the Logic of English...it's a book not the curriculum.
AdventuresinHomeschooling
The Good and the Beautiful incorporates spelling rules very similar to AAS rules. Spelling Workout supposedly does, but it did not seem very explicit to me other than the list for the week surrounding the rule example.
