Raeof5
Has anyone used that program? I can't find any reviews that aren't already on their website.
ElizabethB
I do not know anyone who has used it, but have looked at the samples. He does have some marketing going on! It looks like a good phonics program from the samples, but there are a ton of good phonics program out there that are cheaper. Phonics Pathways and OPG are the two that teach to the highest grade level, good phonics and to a 4th grade level. Blend Phonics is free and goes to a first grade level, Word Mastery is free to print from Don Potter and goes to a 3rd grade level. Fellow phonics tutor Vanessa Peters has some good free videos. Her workbooks are expensive if you buy them all. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHnIVm9OG9zIdtOtUHAtoUw Her book series is a bit cheaper, I have used the last 2 volumes, volume 4 and 5, with my remedial students. Her books go up to around a 6th grade level by the end. https://www.amazon.com/Letter-Sounds-Save-Their-Soul/dp/1494734443/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1507055286&sr=8-1&keywords=letter+sounds+save+their+soul Edited October 3, 2017 by ElizabethB
ElizabethB
How many are you teaching and what are their ages and needs? For mixed age teaching for a jump start with reading and spelling, I would go with my syllables program, all free to print and good for a 1st grader this time of year up to high school. (Beginning 1st grader or end of year K student is the lower age range.) http://www.thephonicspage.org/On%20Reading/syllablesspellsu.html Edited October 3, 2017 by ElizabethB
LauraLRH
This is a good program. It is based on sound phonics principles and places a lot of stress on phonemic awareness. Many parents use it to teach their toddlers to read, but I think it is as effective for older students that need to catch up to grade level. Besides, now it's way more affordable program it used to be. I guess this is because some people now prefer to use apps, and this is a "classic" paper program. With this one, you download it, you print out the materials, and you are supposed to (ideally) have one-on-one lessons with your child following the instructions on the program. If interested, I wrote a very comprehensive review about it not that long ago about it: https://learningreadinghub.com/blog/struggling-readers/children-learning-reading-program-review/
