Anyone else already started working on Fasfa for the next school year?

I'm planning on doing it this Sunday. I read something on CC about child and parent needing a code.... anyone know how you do that? Is that just part of the application process?

You need the college code that you are considering going to. You can likely look it up on the FASFA website, but if not, it should be on the college website.

Starting on....we started and saved, ds was doing other stuff and we need to put his banking amounts on it yet, plus meeting with a financial advisor on Friday, so things may be moving around slightly for him.  So yes, it's not finished in one sitting, dd got hers done.  At least you can go back and change things if you have to, but I'd rather them be correct when we submit them.

I'm not sure I understand... obviously we are applying to several schools, so do you just pick a random school? You don't need to fill out a FAFSA for each school, right?

There will be a place on the FAFSA to enter the codes for the schools you are applying to. But if you don't have the codes there is a search box to look up the schools and enter them. Kind of like registering for the ACT and sending scores. You can enter the school code or search for it.

At least that was the case in the past. I haven't done it this year.

OH goodness, we don't even have a finalized list yet! She has some early action apps though, so I guess I can put those in.

We don't have to do it for dd's university/scholarships (beyond freshman year), so I have another year's reprieve. Next year, we're back in the application game, so I will have to review FAFSA and the dreaded CSS profile (my insides just quaked in fear from the repressed memory of that experience... :ack2: ).

I have an appointment late this month with our tax professional on the tax and FAFSA issues I'm concerned about. She's a FAFSA expert as well as an enrolled agent. I'll probably also go to the FAFSA help session at my youngest's college.

So probably November for me because two of my college classes end the first week of November. Right now I'm going crazy with grading.
