Analytical Grammar "too easy" and "boring"

Susan Wise Bauer's Grammar Curriculum will be out soon. There are three books. It is instructor driven.

Warriner's English Grammar and Composition First Course. A classic. Written to the student. You would probably have to have some grammar knowledge to correct as I don't know if teacher editions are available.

Michael Clay Thompson Royal Fireworks Press. Includes Magic Lens loops which are problem solving with grammar. (rather analytical)

Are you just on the first season? I do think the first third of the program is only review for kids who have been learning grammar for years. The second and third seasons are better. AG may not include a few topics that you would find in Rod and Staff or WTM Press new program (I actually am not sure, just judging from what I have read), but I did appreciate how streamlined it is and I do think it covers everything necessary to understand grammar and be able to correct writing mistakes.

You could speed it up. My very analytical STEM kid did the whole program in 1 year and while he never loved it, he admitted that it did the job with a minimum of fuss and time, which he did appreciate. He was also supremely motivated by the thought that if he aced it all I told him he would never have to do grammar again. [emoji6]

Is he getting everything correct?  My DS12 is also complaining that AG is "boring" and that he "already knows this stuff," but you know, he's making a fair number of mistakes, so I disagree with the second part of his assessment.

If he is acing it all, I would just let him test out of sections, like a PP suggested.

Definitely don't quit! Season one is pretty easy (especially if he has done grammar before with another program), but seasons two and three are much more challenging. Agreeing with another suggestion above to allow him to look at each new topic; if he thinks he knows it well, let him to jump right to the test.
