bethben
My dd has had pretty bad hives for a week now. They have migrated to her face which is swollen and puffy. Last Friday, we went to the doctor and she put her on Claritin once per day and Benadryl every six hours for what she thought was contact dermatitis. She had bumps all over her arms and legs after rolling around in non-treated grass. Benadryl is hardly touching it anymore and the hives are spreading. We're going back to the doctor tomorrow. Anyone with experience like this?
Guinevere
My ds once broke out in hives on his face and neck. They were rapidly spreading, so we went to the er. We gave him benadryl on the way, and he already looked a little better when we got there. I also had him put an ice pack on his neck and throat. Anyway, they were pretty concerned at the er and said we needed to carry an epi pen for him. They kept him several hours for observation. All that to say if the hives are spreading to her face and neck, and are not helped by benadryl, keep a very close eye on her until the doctor appointment. Arcadia
Has your daughter been tested for grass allergy? A high school ex-classmate has that and his classmates thought he was joking and rolled him on the soccer field. He was hospitalized for three days because it was that bad. My DS12 is sensitive to certain shrubs and used to have hives at the neighborhood park. The pediatrician said he could write a note to have me walk over to the public school and give my kid Benadryl if needed at the nurse station. I could also agree for the nurse to administer Benadryl instead of me walking over to school. That was when my kid was in K and 1st grade. blondeviolin
I'd be surprised if they don't prescribe steroids to help with it. Also, Zyrtec is more effective than Claritin to take care of my hives. You can actually take both...
