frugalmamatx
I"m in the USA. But we want to spend 7th grade studying the history of Australia / New Zealand / Oceania {it's a long story, but we have a solid reason for doing so}. What's out there for textbook or programs that cover those areas?
Rosie_0801
Precious little. Ask Sadie for Aussie stuff, if she doesn't see this. My resources are either too young or too old for a year 7 kid, but if *you* want some reading material, read 'Dark Emu' by Bruce Pascoe. Dmmetler
We used History for the Australian Curriculum as a spine for a year of Australian history.

Melissa in Australia
We did Australia, the wide brown land for me. There is also a institute for exelance in writing Australia history based writing lessons. I have the book but will use it with ds13 in a year or so. So haven't used it yet. frugalmamatx
History, politics and religion are forbidden subjects in NZ. Really? Why? I was really looking for something that explained NZ history and historical culture to me as well - my partner is tired of constantly having to explain things :) I guess something geared towards immigrants maybe? Colonial guilt and political correctness. I guess also our history is very recent and sore points are still sore. I did see what looked like a good kid's book at the library which i need to find again since we are up to the 19th century. I will send you the details when i do. There are some really nice picture books set in WWI/II and i have always liked The Runaway Settlers for it't desciption of life. I will ask some of the ex refugees at work whether they have something but all I have seen in the past was more practical stuff.
