sheryl
I have a new, 1 year old Vitamix. A soup recipe calls for using an immersion blender which I don't have. Do I need to buy an immersion one or will the Vitamix work just fine?. TIA! Edited September 22, 2017 by sheryl
Catwoman
The Vitamix should work fine, but be sure not to set it at a low setting and keep a close eye on it, or you'll end up with runny sauce instead of soup. :)
sheryl
Ok, good! Thanks, Cat!
Spy Car
An immersion blender's advantage is in reducing scalding risks when working with hot soups. Just be careful and you will be fine. And don't over-process. Bill
school17777
If you will be needing an immersion blender often, even though the Vitamix will work, it would be more convenient to have an immersion blender.
tdbates78
I have both a Vitamix and immersion blender. It's definitely easier to blend soup directly in the pot with the immersion blender, and I find it much easier to control the consistency. I tend to prefer chunkier soups. My Vitamix is awesome but even on the lowest setting I will end up with a puree. But if you don't use immersion blenders often, the Vitamix will be fine. Just be sure t lift the the plastic top off and start low so the steam can escape. BTW Immersion blenders are pretty inexpensive and I use mine more often than I thought I would.
Catwoman
If you're in the market for an immersion blender, I have this one and it was worth the money just to get the almost-magical potato masher attachment: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MWK4XPY/ref=sxts_bia_sr_1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=3182441022&pd_rd_wg=z7awn&pf_rd_r=X2NKGJ0ZMVBK7YHQ6DJ5&pf_rd_s=desktop-sx-top-slot&pf_rd_t=301&pd_rd_i=B00MWK4XPY&pd_rd_w=rncwj&pf_rd_i=cuisinart+smart+stick&pd_rd_r=C21H7WCYRC9CK5FTCFZ1&ie=UTF8&qid=1506105320&sr=1 Edited September 22, 2017 by Catwoman
sheryl
Ok, thanks all! I think I'll buy one. Your last reply was timely, Cat, as I was getting ready to ask for a recommendation. :hurray: And, I have no clue on features to consider. I can't wait to make my roasted butternut squash soup recipe!!! :thumbup1:

Your last reply was timely, Cat, as I was getting ready to ask for a recommendation. :hurray: And, I have no clue on features to consider. I can't wait to make my roasted butternut squash soup recipe!!! :thumbup1: The main reason I bought the model I linked in my last post is because it has the extra attachments, so I use it far more often than my old immersion blender that was just a standard, no-frills model. I like the whisk thing, and I love the mashed potato attachment (which I initially thought was kind of stupid and that it would never work, but it's excellent!) The other accessories work well, too, but I don't use them as often because most of the time I forget I have them. :)
sheryl
Right... my V was costly so I may look for a lesser expensive hand immersion - I won't be using all of the pieces. Now I'm curious about manufacturer options.
