The ct shows Dh has a thickening in his bladder.

He is going to have a bladder scope done to rule out cancer. And a PSA done to rule out prostate problems.

The urologist said it is highly unlikely to be cancer but he wouldn't want to let it go and a year from now find out it is cancer.

Dh has had no more symptoms other than those two days a week apart...last incident 2 weeks ago. Urologist said it is likely the catheter from the knee replacement surgery just irritated the bladder and the blood thinners made the irritation more evident.

Praying for it to be nothing. I thnk Dh is very worried. Worried about the prostate thing as much as anything even though he has no symptoms.

I don't think the PSA would rule out prostate problems!  Or, that it guarantees that one has Prostate problems.  I think at this point the Urologists are wondering about the validity of the PSA test and what the results may or may not mean.

My Prostate has been large for many years. PSA numbers high.  Like your Urologist, in 2006, our Urologist told me he didn't think anything was wrong, but to be sure, he did a Biopsy of my Prostate. Negative.

Also, and of possible interest to your DH. In 2006, our Urologist sent me for an Ultrasound exam of my Prostate and Bladder.  The Radiologist M.D. who did the test, told me, after it was over, that my Bladder didn't know that it wasn't empty.  I mentally recorded that, but never thought it could kill me.  The combination  of the 2 *almost* killed me, about  6 years later.  I am still here, with my Prostate and Bladder and OEM parts...

It is *really* important that you trust your Specialist doctors 100%,   because your life is in their hands if they are wrong.

I  personally am not willing to have surgery on either my Bladder or my Prostate, because the results are *not* guaranteed and one could end up much worse off, after surgery, than before surgery.

Good luck to your DH and the doctors who are taking care of him!

He mentioned there is controversary about the PSA test but he still believes in it being beneficial.

The scope will also allow him to look at the prostate and all the areas along the way.

What was wrong with your bladder?

What is wrong with my Bladder? It doesn't know that it isn't empty.  Probably that has to do with old age or something.  Personally, I believe that the majority of my problem is due to the Bladder not knowing it isn't empty and that is what led to me being in Critical condition some years ago.  Everyone thinks "Prostate Prostate Prostate", and that's part of my problem, but IMO, what almost killed me is my Bladder, and more so,  the combination of the 2 conditions.

I believe the PSA examination has been extremely controversial for 15 or 20 years now.  There was also another Blood test they did years ago when we had good insurance (a PPO) but still, I think our Urologist had his doubts.  We trust him implicitly and I am still here to write this...  I include him and his family in the people I pray for...

This is my *trusted* web site for Medical information and this page is about Prostate Cancer, which I sincerely hope you DH does not have. It is a U.S. Government web site and there is no advertising.

There is another thing about Prostate Cancer: If the man is young and the Cancer is aggressive, then they would usually treat it aggressively. If the man is older, and the Cancer is slow going, there is a high probability the man will die of something unrelated to Prostate Cancer, like a Heart Attack.  Sometimes, frequently, the best treatment for Prostate Cancer is no treatment.

  • 2 weeks later...

He had the scope. No cancer worry. Bladder looks good, just a bit of thickening that Dr. is not concerned about. The two episodes he had are most like from some narrowing of the urine channel where some scar tissue is which caused the bleeding too.

So that is a big relief. Onward and Upward.
