Jackie
Before I do a bunch of research that others have already done, does anyone know of lists of classes, camps, and/or competitions for gifted/accelerated kids?
arliemaria
If this is available/or we create one collectively could this be a sticky? I can see this being helpful in future planning purposes.
daijobu
You might have better luck if you ask about specific areas. What sort of competitions and camps? Math? Debate? Greek mythology?
Jackie
You might have better luck if you ask about specific areas. What sort of competitions and camps? Math? Debate? Greek mythology? I don't know, which is the problem. I have one of those kids that doesn't have an "area", at least as of now. She reads widely in science, history, and language. She loves reading math concepts even if doing math is not a love. When I spread a banquet for her, I'm routinely genuinely surprised by the options she chooses for what to delve into. This past summer, I gave her several options for summer camp, and she wasn't intrigued. Cast the net wider, and she was enamored by a Japanese culture camp, which I didn't predict at all. She's previously sworn she would never want to do anything at all competitive.. This year, she's beyond thrilled that the charter school has a spelling bee, wants to do NME and Math Kangaroo. Where did this come from? I'm looking to get ideas to continue spreading a buffet for her, now and in the future. She's not one to vocalize her desires. She doesn't overtly wish for something. But sometimes when she finds out something exists, she verbalizes that it's a hole she didn't know how to fill. That leaves me theowing things at the wall to see what sticks.
8filltheheart
Cogito.org used to have the best searchable database I could find, but unfortunately it looks like the have removed from their site and now strictly promote their own camps. Here are a few other databases that are at least a starting place: https://www.davidsongifted.org/Search-Database/topic/105217/entryType/2 http://www.hoagiesgifted.org/summer.htm http://www.vagifted.org/?page=ResParents
eternalsummer
I would love love a sticky for this. I have a few things to contribute but a sticky would just make it so much easier to find. I remember this was one of my first questions on this forum too :)
