I am thinking of moving the kids to this when we finish FLL 3.

I want to switch now cause FLL/WWE is not working out for us. I just cannot get any traction with this combo. It is a fine idea but I think my kids have aged out of the whole FLL/WWE time frame.

Any experiences? Is it really a 2-in-one or does grammar need supplementing?

If you have supplemented, what have you used? Have you tried to line up the topics?

How have your reluctent writer's done with it?

The boys would be EIW 5 and my girl would be EIW 3.

Anyone know if he plans to revise Levels 1-3? I see the older levels have been revised to include more grammar practice and such.

If no grammar is included past 7th, what, if anything, have you used?

I supplement the grammar, just because my kids need the review.  Otherwise, it's a pretty solid program overall.

I used the upper levels (7 and up) which don't include grammar, but it was very good for my reluctant writer. Here's a review I wrote back when it first came out.

WRT grammar for older students, I used Easy Grammar Plus with my kids (not the same year I did EIW--we alternate topics).

We just started level 4 a couple of weeks ago and love it so far. We are not supplementing at this time, but we'll see about next year after I get a good feel for it this year.

I've used a variety of stuff to supplement.  Spectrum Language Arts is one of the main ones I've used.  I am going to be using Editor-In-Chief this year with my 5th/6th graders.

I don't align the topics, no.

I don't know if he's planning on revising the first three levels.  Honestly, I wish he hadn't revised the later levels.  I mean...we haven't used the revised DVD yet, and I'm assuming it will be better.  But I really preferred the way he had structured the program before.  I'm talking packaging and whatnot.

And it crawls up my craw that he nixed the pdf option.  It's a very expensive program (imo) as it currently is.  I wouldn't mind so much if the add-on student workbooks were not $$$.  As it stands, because of he much money it now costs, I may end up switching next year.

I preferred the PDF method too. I asked him about it once, and he said that 85% of their customers ordered the workbook! I was surprised (and I'm not one who likes e-books at all, but I do like printable consumable pages). Maybe it became simpler to just go with the physical workbook method.

I did use the workbook version a few times, and just had my kids write in a notebook--so we used them in a non-consumable way.

I totally get the whole workbooks being easier to use, kwim?  But when using it with multiple kids, it was just so much easier, in this case, to print off the workbook pages we needed.  When it comes to teacher's manuals, I loathe pdf.  I need a physical book to flip through.

I will likely do as you...have them use notebook paper to complete the assignments.  It's just a pain.

Essentials in Writing coupled with www.quill.org is a good fit imo.

When you have to ship half way round the world heavy workbooks are not ideal.

In my experience, the cost of a workbook is usually less then the cost of me printing 3 copies of something. But I do get that shipping halfway round the world would negate that cost.

Paradox, usually it is more cost effective to just buy the workbook.

But add-on workbooks are $37 (if I remember correctly). I can print for cheaper than that.

I'm just bitter, lol!

I see now. I'm getting old.

So bottom line- good program, supplement if you want to otherwise not needed. Correct?

I want to order today cause we are selling our house and need the books to arrive before we move.

We're using EiW for the first time this year. I'm pairing it with Easy Grammar/Daily Grams. So far, so good.
